They managed it for the Grand Galloping Gala, so why not?

PS: Season 2 sucks a bit.

I think that was the point. Twilight didn't here from her brother because that was Chrysalis's plan would have had too much time to be exposed by the others.

How would any of that come up, though?

Cadence and Twilight's brother yes.

But the changelings not neccesarily. There have been many antagonists and creatures that have been mentioned only in the episode they appear in.

If the power were with Studio B/DHX, I would have certainly wanted it that way. But I'm honestly glad with what we got.

The world of Equestria takes a few chapters straight out of DnD. It's a death world, of course there are going to be a few unforeseen threats. Especially if they are Changlings. Fridge horror: They were hiding in plain sight the whole time.

Given the toy announcements, they had time. Passing mentions could have been done.

I'd say 'yes' but I also realize that we are never ever going to see any of these three again. :p

Cadence and Shining Armor are basically what I like to call Cosby Relatives. That's a relative, usually of the main character, who doesn't actually exist until they appear in the story directly. They're also an example of a small-scale retcon.

Also, yeah, season 2 kinda sucked.

You mean how they introduced Cerberus and Tartarus?

Season 2's "suckiness" was the lack of an overarching plot. Season 1 had everything leading up to the Gala, and everything tied together nicely despite the non-serial nature of the show. Season 2 didn't have that. I think that's what irks a lot of people, nothing was really relevant. Individual episodes were great, but as a whole season 2 wasn't quite as good as season 1.

Although that finale is fucking glorious.

@redcore well one could probably argue that cerberus wasn't as important because of the non-linear storyline of the series, while cadence and shining were central to the finalle, but eh :)

Maybe, maybe not.

But, the introduction of Changelines might have surprised many viewers for added suspense, you know?

Maybe because they had begun to grow apart like Twilight said and she was just trying not to think about her brother because it would depress her.

Given the whole "BBBFF" thing, some indication that Twilight at least had a brother would've been nice, as well as an explanation for why another alicorn was a thing that didn't qualify as a big deal.

Alicorns are master race, and few in number.

Still obnoxious though. At least Real!Cadence was cool enough to make up for it.

I'm only bugged (and only slightly) by there being no mention of Twilight's brother. If she was so close to him, why would she never mention him, at least once?
"Sounds like something my brother would."
"I wonder what my BBBFF would have to say about this?"

But lets cut DHX some slack. It the second season. Think how many lessons they've learned on how to present the show.

The changelings? No. It's fine to keep them hidden until the end.

Twilight's fucking brother? The one she called her BBBFF? The one she was NOT upset about missing at the very BEGINNING of this whole fucking show, when Celestia sent her to Ponyville to "make some friends"?

And her babysitter, Candace? You know, the one who wasn't fucking mentioned either?

@689
It's not only that, it's that there were more weak episodes, and weaker than the weak episodes of season 1. How many recycled plots were used in season 2? The writers are taking it easy.

^^@Anon192; To be fair, when Celestia first sent Twilight to Ponyville it was only to oversee preparations for the Summer Sun Festival. Twilight thought she was going to be back in a day or two.

For the love of God yes. Rather than socking us with the sudden appearance of a relative of a main character and a new alicorn, around which the plot revolves.

my only complaint is that none of the Ponies even Questioned Twilight for having a Brother. Not one asked "You have a Brother?"

Srsly guys? Season 2 was just as good as season 1. My "only" problem with this finale was that Shining Armor had never been mentioned before, but other than that it was a-okay.
See, season one was all about Twilight learning about friendship, there was one theme across the whole season, but the was kind of limiting in terms of fleshing out the rest of the cast. Season 2, the theme is EVERYONE has problems, and everyone learns things, not limited only to friendship, but life lessons. So the theme may have been more spread out, but I felt it was well done and extremely important. They were able to flesh out the rest of the cast, and say that everyone is important, not just Twilight, which is a very important thing to teach to the younger viewers imo. No one person in your group of friends is most important, you all are.

Anyway, maybe I just eat up anything pony related thrown at me, but I absolutely loved the finale, and season two as a whole. In the end, I actually think I enjoyed Season 2 a bit more than 1. (Although I admit, at first I thought season 2 was gonna blow, the first 3 episodes were such a huge letdown. Sisterhooves social jumped it right back up though.)

This season did loads of dumbed-down, unnecessary things season 1 didn't resort to, honestly.

I agree that season 2 was very weak compared to season 1. There were too many episodes where characters were forced into roles that didn't suit them (half the mane 6 stealing some of a VERY important cake? Really!?) Too many characters and concepts were introduced and never mentioned again. What the hell was the purpose of devoting an ENTIRE EPISODE to giving Rainbow Dash a pet if you're never going to show Tank EVER AGAIN.

When Lauren Faust planned season 1, she showed that she understood inter-episode continuity. Season 2 fell very flat without her at the helm.
