A very informative report about the possible current number and statistics of bronies from around the world. A bonus poll of who's best pony of the year 2012. Link in stats.

I'm questioning how this census was made.
The makers probably started a thread on like ponychan or ponibooru, of course you're not getting the full results of the fans of the show.
I mean, mostly males watching? Did the maker/s even consider that little girls are into this show? Like pretty much?
I have my doubts about this report, it seems like it's badly thought out and doesn't take much into consideration.

I'm pretty sure this was linked through EQD at some point. That's how to get the most honest information.

Let me guess what it says before I read it:

Demographics:
90% male
10% female
0% female under 250 pounds

Interests:
Video Games: 70%
Spending 16 hours a day on the internet: 80%
Fapping to horses: 90%
Ordering happy meals at McDonalds and asking for the girls toy despite being a 25 year old dude: 99%
IRL social interaction with non-pony fans: 1%

This is...unnecessarily long. What will these stats accomplish? Fuck...I'm a sociologist, I do this shit for a living, I don't feel like reading a census report about ponies.

Remember everyone.
This was linked by fucking EqD.
The only people who filled this in were the annoying bronies who have nothing but ponies in their life.
It's not in any way representative of the fanbase.
You might read this and laugh and the rabid bronies, that might be worth something as long as you remember that this isn't in any way representative of the fanbase.

I'm interested to know how they acquired this data, and how they disseminated the self-report surveys . The report is set up well, far cry from official, but I've seen worse. Though, I think he's inflated the sample size a bit.... there's a lot of flaws in this report.

This worries me, his justification for not having a margin of error report is

"This is because the sample was so large that it can be considered to be a measure of the population, rather than a sample of the population."

I doubt his sample size was large enough to make that judgement.

All in all, cute little report, but its accuracy is...questionable.

Anyways I do think that someone should redo this census but try and cover all bases. So that there is less of a sample Bias.

Battle, I'd gladly do it if i had time. Like I said, this is one of the things I do for a living, and I can feel for what this guy did. Its a hard, boring, and drawn-out process gathering the needed data, and doing the blasted report for that matter.

Are you kidding me? Did he really say that?
This guy is pathetic.

Doesn't matter how large your sample size is, you should always do a CL margin report.

^That isn't really the problem for me, since I don't really know much about these things.
The thing that bothers me is that he thinks he got everyone that likes My Little Pony, when in reality he only got the EqD/Ponychan crowd.

True, he's inflated his sample size. He acknowledges that somewhere in there. He also admits that its biased toward the net, as it was an e-survey. All in all, with the biases and limitations of this report, it should not be used as a standard. What gets me, and unless I missed it, he never states the number of those surveyed. His Sample could be in the few hundards for all we know, which would be a meek study.

1) Before you can even whine about sampling, you have to define what a "Brony" is.

2) For any reasonably broad definition of "Brony", the only way to get a truly accurate survey is going to be some kind of giant random phone poll like they do in politics where you just cold-call thousands of people and ask them if they watch MLP.

There are cool explorative multivariate statistical analyses that don't necessarily require representative sampling. For example, it would be interesting to do a cluster analysis or a PCA to identify groups/types of Bronies in the fandom.
