No, it's that unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies are the "normal" ponies while alicorns are like the god-creatures. It wasn't ever explained in canon why cadence was an alicorn and why she was marrying a "normal" pony. Isn't she immortal? Like celly and luna? Or something? Wouldn't it not work |

they completely dropped that in the show... I'm still a little put off by it.
My guess is that if the pony team had full control (and didnt have to cater to hasbro's autism) they'd have made cadence one of the three regular pony types |

Back when Cadence was unveiled, Faust mentioned that she's originally designed her as a unicorn. Indeed, Celestia even refers to her as a unicorn during the wedding ceremony. I only hope something is mentioned about it during season 3. |

Actually, I don't see any reason why immortal/mortal COULDN'T work. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? No... especially after the sixth time or so I would imagine that the immortal would adjust and just enjoy the marriage while it lasted.
That having been said, given the fact that Luna may have been centuries old at the banishment (or the banishment happened REALLY fast after they took out Discord), and the fact that Cadence grew from teen to adult in the time Twilight went from foal to adult (or faster), I think that having Cadence as being mortal is fairly plausible fanon (I know it is mine). |
