I already predicted this back a couple months ago. The fandom will falter after this season is over. Going from tens of thousands to just thousands. Also, if the 13 episodes is true, and in fact that will be the last season of G4, good riddance. I'm getting bored of G4. Not as exciting as G1 was. G4 was good through season one but most of season two is blah. Time for a change. Only good now are the references and animation style. Personality and songs are great too. But the stories now suck as with the adventures. Which leads me to loose interest. |

MY perfect outcome is that they continue to do slice-of-life eps where nothing really ever changes. They just continually elaborate on ponies. They can develop relationships etc, but I don't want anyone to grow up and go away. Sort of like a utopia. Conflicts arise every so often and are dealt with after an adventure, etc etc.
Would be a nice thing to follow in a world where everything from life to morality degrades unendingly. |

I think fandom burnout is a bigger cause of defectors than the quality show itself. This fanbase can be overwhelming, disturbing and quite frankly just annoying at times. There were moments where I'd read a particular fanfic or seen a particular pic or meme, raged, and deleted all the pony sites from my favorites.
I've gotten over that bump and now have reached a greater appreciation of the show itself. Everything in moderation. |

If the CMC ever do get their cutie marks, that pretty much ends a major story source so they are going to postpone that as much as possible I'm sure.

Lol look at all your bronies shitting your pants over the thought of MLP ending, silly bronies don't you know what makes the world turn? The likelihood of Hasbro ending MLP is low. Shows like MLP are Hasbros bread and butter, Hasbro hired lauren faust to revision MLP, to make it marketable again, to create a product that appealed to their target audience, little girls.
Instead they got a product that surpassed their wildest dreams, a gold mine that was so universally appealing, that it spawned a thriving, totally devoted subculture filled with people that where never their intended market, not everyone may say that they like MLP, but everyone knows about it. That's power. For a company like Hasbro, something like this is insanely valuable, capable of generating them tremendous revenue and publicity. Purely from a business point of view, purely from greed its unthinkable to not continue this for as long as there is a growing, self-sustaining market to sell to. And if theres one thing you can rely a corporation to act on, its greed. If MLP did end after 3-4 seasons, it would be a sign of respect, that they didn't milk it for every last desperate dollar, and some things deserve a respectable end rather than a lingering death. |

I wouldn't necessarily want it to get more adult, but a little more continuity and progress forward would be good, maybe a few multi-parters styled as epic quests. Like Adventure Time, which started out as just silly people doing silly stuff but gradually evolved a coherent continuity without losing its spirit. Some darker villains (Don't get me wrong, Discord was great, but we need someone with a specific, long term goal) or maybe bring all the old villains into a team. |

I think you're reaching, and then I think you're right. The show was still fresh to the Web in Season 1. Many people didn't give FiM a try until the summer, probably because they didn't have as much to do. However, after the summer, the amount of people saying they started watching the show decreased. Succinctly, it's a normal curve of new viewers. It hit its peak in Summer 2011. But most people in geeky Web-culture already know about the show, when the summer rolls around, they won't look to FiM again if they've already tried it and didn't like it. The difference in circumstance between S1/S2 and S2/S3 is significant. (I'm going from survey data of about 4,000 people, by the way. It's mostly from EqD, which is a different population from Ponibooru, but I'm willing to bet that the peak here in terms of getting into the show was in Summer 2011 as well.) As for the show never dying, I think there is a point to that. I don't think the fandom is going to die out over the summer. People will keep getting bored, but some will come back, a small percentage of new viewers will come on, but I think a majority of current viewers will wait on the Season 3 premiere. tl;dr: I don't think the fandom will die, but I think it will cease to grow as much as it once did. I think the only way for the fandom to continue to rise in number is for people in the mainstream (i.e., people who use the Internet only for email, Facebook, and school/work and not for 4chan, gaming boards, and Web geek stuff) to gain interest. That's what I've interested in seeing. People who spend hours and hours on the Internet for fun are entirely different from those who do not. We're way more likely to be asexual. We're way less likely to use social networking sites. We're way more likely to be male. We're way more likely to be uninterested in sports. The mainstream may respond in an entirely different way than we did. I don't even know if some people know about Minecraft or Skyrim. |
