TBH, I don't think newborn fluffy foals can talk yet. It would take at least few weeks for the speech to develop.

Yeah, I know.

Perhaps that's the reason why all the other fluffy ponies hated it. It was unnaturally smart for a newborn fluffy foal and could talk right off after being born.

New tendency: make the fluffy ponies jerks so that fluffabuse won't be frowned upon.

@#1271773

They seem to be able to speak pretty early on in many stories and this one makes it pretty clear that it's all instinctive as it states the feelings force the sound out. It's why they can talk despite lacking the intelligence to learn how.

@#1271777

Plenty of baby animals can make the sounds they're instinctively capable of so why should Fluffy Ponies be any different?

Chances are it was born a runt and like many animals the others considered it a waste of resources and left it to die.

@#1271784
Actually the tendency is closer to not making them anymore noble or innocent then any other animal because that's all they are.

I don't remember that many stories about fluffy foals talking right after being born. After a few days, sure, even after a few hours, but not instantly.
But then again, there is no definitive canon to fluffy ponies except that they are extremely dumb abominations of science.

I'm reminded of the "No Fluffy Shall Learn to Read!" story.

I'm finishing up a sort of research paper on the genetic makeup of fluffies, including a section on their speech development.

(not to be taken seriously, or as canon)

My concept is that in the first few hours of life, fluffy foals use simple sounds like newborn rabbits to call for help from momma. Because they mature around 15 times faster than a human (twice the maturity rate of a dog or cat) they develop their base speech recognition and imitation in a matter of hours.

Likewise, it is possible that the scientists that created fluffies genetically programmed key words into their minds.

Therefore a baby fluffy would know simple terms like "food", "hungry", "water", "momma", "cold", etc. Much like the very basic words we learn as young children. Just like a dog's brain tells it to bark for attention, growl to display anger, or whine to express hunger, a baby fluffy uses simplistic speech like "help" for attention, "angry" to express displeasure, etc.

I get bored at work a lot.

@deathproofpony

Well from what I see all of the Fluffy Ponies possess what are more or less identical speech patterns as well as knowing what "sketties" are. So I just go with the "Pre-programmed Vocabulary" theory myself.

Partially because developing faster still wouldn't explain how they could talk because things just don't work that way. In fact that may just give them less time in which they could easily learn and actually hamper their ability to pick up a language.

There are plenty of animals on this world in reality which are observably more intelligent then Fluffy Ponies and some which have been taught to communicate in and understand English. Of course this takes longer then mere hours and this is for animals that develop faster then humans and are easily brighter then Fluffy Ponies.

In this case I refer to the more intelligent species of bird.

An interesting story might be exploring what exactly they know without ever being told. Would a Fluffy Pony who never had Spaghetti ever in its life and never heard of it still beg for "Sketties"?

^Yes. There's stories with ferals who have never seen sketties before light the fuck up at the sound of the word sketties.

Maybe their desire for Sketties is something that touches the primordial part of whatever brains they have.

so it's something they know about, but don't realize it.

I don't know who wrote this, or if they'll ever see this, but one word of advice: every time I read the word "fowl," I read it in it's actual pronunciation in it's actual usage regarding birds, as opposed to baby talk for "foal." Might want to find another way to make that work.
