Cultural and religious intertwining caused the incorrect belief that female circumcision is related to the religion of Islam. tl;dr FGM does not have anything to do with Islam, but many people (including muslims) believe it does, so its practiced anyway. Its sorta like the widely held misconceptions that Christ was Jesus' last name or that Buddha was fat. |

Ah, the belief that humans are less than animals so we need to cover women up to protect them from men. Islam dehumanizes humans in such overtly stupid ways that I have no clue why so many people believe it. |
