^ Unless he was able to take care of it by himself, it's really the only option. If you leave a runt with it's mother, it's most likely going to die a very slow death. It's really a mercy killing when you think about it. |

True - in the wild and in domesticated animals runts will die unless a human caregiver intervenes. Even then, they are sometimes so weak that even with constant care they can die. |
