Actually, a sapient species could benefit from a mating cycle. Population control and management, coordination of the females for protection/work/ care purposes, and other benefits. In fact, a sapient species would be able to make efficient use of said benefits. |

Oh anon, humans are the ONLY example we have of a sapient species, and we are primates. Most primates do not have mating cycles, so it isn't necessarily our sapience that makes it so. And monkeys don't throw their shit because of hormones.
Who said they need a cycle, anyway? We don't need our coccyx, but we still have that. It's a vestigial function of their brain left over from when they were non-sapient. |
