Funny thing is, I actually did break the Guard up into separate branches. So even if I put Shining Armor in charge of the unicorn guards, then I would have to depose Sir High Regard, Captain of the Magisters.

An OC is someone who is made from whole cloth, with no basis in canon.
A background pony is someone who appears in the cartoon, but isn't a member of the recurring cast. Whether they have lines or even a name is largely irrelevant. Derpy is a background pony. Even for the brief period that she actually was canonized, she was never a principle cast member. Yet there is a whole mythos spun about her. Derpy is a mailmare. Derpy is a single mother. Derpy is the companion of Doctor Whooves. All this was made up by the fans with no basis in the cartoon. Even her name is a fan idea. But Derpy is not an OC. She is a background pony. Likewise for Aquilinus. Someone else came up with the name, I just made a Tumblr about him. |
