I may be looking a tad too deep into this, but maybe this could somehow represent the feeling of being bound to an image of such sophistication that she feels tied up over not being able to be completely herself with anyone lest she be prosecuted or live in fear being prosecuted.
Which in turn is probably why Vinyl x Octavia ship exists as Vinyl isn't bound by this. At least I see it like this. |

Yeah, Vinyl represents the balls-to-the-wall-smoke-weed-err-day-drink-booze-all-night-constant-partying-don't-give-a $^%$ lifestyle Octavia so desperately craves but is afraid to embrace because of what others may think. |

Funny. I always thought Vinyl's glasses in fanon could be symbolic. She's so wild and free with her emotions, her glasses are her only way to keep to herself. Her only source of calmness, her last and only defense and vunerability when she takes them off. Again. Reading too much into background ponies. |

What can I say? Looking stuff in this weird way is fun, even more so if there's not a lot of canonically estabilished stuff. Having taken a hit of crack few minutes ago, I'll also say that AJ, hides her Ph.D in Theoretical Physics. That act in Applebuck Season was just a ruse and orange is a color donned by another theoretical physicist. Twi has smut in her library, hidden behind the shelves. Fluttershy collects exotic weapons and stashes them in a secret compartment to avoid unfortunate implications. |
