The way I see it Rarity is around the same age as Twilight.
Spike would be about 4-6 years younger than Twilight. So there isn't that big of an age gap between Spike and Rarity. |

In the cutie mark chronicles we learned that Spike was born around the time when Rarity and all of the other mares were like fillies, so technically. yeah. the age difference is not all that big. as a matter of fact, i think Spike may be in his pre-teens. |
