I've never got this ship, they are so very far apart in terms of lifestyle, likes and everything else....

There are two major factors, Neck, as to this particular ship.
Applejack and Rarity are so unalike that there's a lot to work with there, as is common for many ships in general. Most of the appeal actually comes from where their compromises would lead, and how they get there, so quite a few people are predisposed toward them being together to see how it goes. "Opposites attract" being the stock phrase, but it means their relationship wouldn't be an easy one. More relevant here, though, is that in the course of the series, they've actually shown they've grown quite close, and had a very touching moment in Sisterhooves Social, even if it wasn't about them, specifically. Fact is that they've lived in Ponyville the longest, despite their different lifestyles, and would likely know the most about each other, and how the other expresses themselves. As for a less major reason, and a personal belief of mine... they look good together. ^^ |
