So this is going off of Castlevania's version of Amphisbaena, not the traditional depiction of the mythical creature, I take it?
The traditional Amphisbaena was a large and venomous two-headed snake or lizard with a single head on its neck and then a second neck and head as a tail-like protrusion, created from the dripping blood of Medusa's neck as Perseus decapitated her. Castlevania's version is a reptilian creature with a literal tail that goes upward and balances the torso and head of a beautiful maiden on its end. While it's a decent depiction on its own, the Castlevania version is not a 'correct' depiction of the creature. And I should probably add that the pony Celestia's back sort of disappears from this picture; either that, or it's a really stupid arch. And that's your history lesson for today, children. |

@Gregorius you know your mythology and video games well. I've mostly played (and completed) a handful of the "Metroidvania" games (including SotN) and I just found their interpretation of some of these mythological creatures especially fascinating.
I actually love it when designers take such mythological creatures and rethink them into different interpretations of the same concept. |
