"find two dead ponies in freezer. no idea why they wouldn't be buried or put in trash."

It's because he was going to eat them.

I'll never understand people that have that many animals in their house. I only have one cat and I'm pretty sure that's all I can handle.

Emotional attachment overrides their mental capacity to think and say, "This is too many Meowcats, I am literally waist deep in them and it's way too many."

@677 yeah, he's got tons of old, non-working electronics, stacks of newspapers, magazines, etc.

Only reason no one's called the health department on him is that you can't smell the cats outside the house. If it gets worse and you can smell the cat pee from the sidewalk, someone's probably going to report him.

Yeesh, why haven't you done it yourself, if only for the sake of the animals?

@802 I watch Hoarders regularly and in my younger days I had the intention of becoming a therapist who specialized in the hoarding personality. Animal hoarding is a mental illness... it's like a schizophrenic who doesn't know any better that they're hallucinating. Unfortunately it ultimately harms the animals and the hoarder isn't able to understand the damage they're doing.

My tech said the cats all look to be healthy and well-fed. The place smells horrible but as long as the animals are healthy we can't do anything.

Oh yes, I'm oh too well aware of the realities of hoarding. That kind of sucks, though, that there's nothing you can do, because just like in your story, potentially deadly "avalanches" and the keeping of dead bodies/not knowing there's dead bodies due to so much clutter are common with animal hoarders that also hoard physical objects..

This story is well written

Well written stories of hoarders make me itchy, though
