Celestia and Luna are classical deities, they only take those particular forms because they are both symbolic of what they mean to ponies and they are comfortable to behold. Their true forms are probably even more beautiful, but their raw divinity incinerates any mortal who looks upon them.
That is, if they're gods similar to the Greek and Roman pantheons; Immensely powerful, but not all-powerful and not invincible, and represent something that defines them. |
