Here we go again, a new version of the Ponibooru Board Helper is ready for the beta testing. I'm contacting those who volounteered as beta testers before to try it before releasing the final version on userscripts.org.

The Ponibooru Board Helper (PBH) is a browser userscript that improves Ponibooru's user experience. If you don't know what I'm talking about, and you're interested, try >>155733 >>156810 >>158270

The current release (1.0.0) seems to be quite good already, since nobody complained about bugs or odd behaviours. I'm quite surprised, since I actually found some minor bugs...
The script was download 290 times so far, which is quite interesting. (I don't know how many actual Ponibooru users are using it, though: the counter on userscript.org started to rise before I posted the link on the board - WTF?!)

This is going to be a minor release (1.1.0), focusing mainly on the user experience.
The main change is the set of text tools for composing comments and messages. If you want to make your text bold, just select it and press the B button. (Drats, now I'm thinking about tool shortcuts - like pressing Ctrl-B for the effect! Probably adding this feature to the public release.) To add an image, press the palette button. To make a list, select the lines of text, press the list button and you're done. And so on.

Another interesting feature is that when you click on 'Post Comment', the page won't reload anymore: just wait for your comment to appear on the list.
A similar thing will happen voting and favoriting the image: no more annoying page reload, the updated data (including new comments) will be dynamically put on the page.

Finally, now there's a shortcut key to open the PBH options. The default one is F8, but you can set it as you want, using combination of shift, control and alt keys too. Or disabling the shortcut if you don't want it.

There are some other minor features and bug fixings, but I'll let the changelog speak for it:

Changelog for version 1.1.0b1:

  • Added shortcut key for PBH options
  • Added text tools for comment and message composing
  • Added a link to 'Comments made' on user's page
  • Prevents page reload on comment post (image view only)
  • Prevents page reload on image voting up, down, removing vote, un/favoriting
  • Fixed bug on displaying user menus on usernames in dialogs
  • Fixed bug on quoting comments with Youtube embedded videos
  • Fixed bug on converting comment lists
  • Fixed Ponibooru's stylesheet rule that derps list margins everywhere

The public release will include another really juicy thing for Chrome and Firefox users - and Opera users too, with a little more effort.

Remember that if you want to be a beta tester, just send me a private message (click on my name, or click on my name and then Send a private message if you already have PBH). Currently looking for Linux, Mac, Opera and Safari testers.

This time I couldn't test it deeply, and it took more than expected, because a nasty bug on the dev version of Chrome, Ponibooru's DB server derping hard, and me coming back home to my folks for Easter. I could only test it on Chrome, but I'm confident that it won't be a mess on Firefox and Opera.

Happy Easter!

Normally, when you click on Show/hide to hide the blotter, the blotter hides but is open again when come back to Ponibooru after you closed your browser.
That option prevents this behaviour and keeps the blotter hidden until you click on Show/hide again.

Oh, now i see why ponibooru has been failing so badly recently.

Y'know, this reminds me of the old AOHell Chat program. My guy got the source code from the original programmer, back when AOL was no longer THE club to be in. It had lots of macro chat scripts. I'll see if any of it can be used here. Wonder if you can do color text posts...

Oh now this is nice. I have a UserJS file that does in-place fave and comment, but this...

Thumbs up.

I could do something about it, I just need to invent some kind of text marking that could be rendered in diffent sizes, colors and fonts. That would be the easy part. The problem is that it would be effective only for those who use the script, so I need something that transparently renders to all the other users.
Not an easy task, unfortunately. The BBCode engine behind Ponibooru is quite basic and very strict, so everything that slightly differs from the exact syntax is simply not rendered. Like this: [b color=red]wannabe bold red text[/b].

For the beginning, I could catch some common emoticons and render them as images, like some common forum frameworks do. I think I can put it in some future version, maybe from version 1.2.0 already.

Mmm, do you use Opera, by chance?

It's time for the second beta version of this release.
I fixed some bugs and added some stuff. The main dish is the addition of the shortcut keys for the text tool: Ctrl B for bold, Ctrl Alt I for image and so on (mouse over the buttons to get the hint).
Another nice thing is about the quoting action while writing comments: if you select an integer number in the text box, the script searches for the comment in the thread with an id ending with that number, and quotes that whole comment. So, for example, if you select '134' and press the quote button (or Ctrl Q), the script searches for the comment id's ending with '134', and if it finds one (like #1233134), it copies the comment in the box. You can select even just one figure, or more than 3, and get the same result: if there are more than one comment that matches the number, the most recent one is quoted.

I've sent the link of the updated version to the beta testers. This is the change log:
  • Added shortcut keys to text tools
  • Quote text tool on number selections quotes the relative comment
  • Fixed missing text tools on message reply (both page and interface)
  • Fixed Youtube frames getting above dialogs
  • Updates post times, tags, new PMs when image page reloads

Can you add the embedded youtube videos in the preview comment section? Would be nice to properly format comments for a certain look without guessing where it would end up.

What's the point of the pinkie pie option? That hasn't been happening since April 1st ended.

Also, if you hide the blotter, will it stay hidden even if it updates?

What do you mean? The point is Pinkie Pie.

Yes. You have to open it again if you want to check.
But the last update was last August, and I bet nobody really reads it anymore.
