Luna Eclipsed really doesn't work if you haven't seen the opening ep - you need to see Nightmare Moon in action to get the episode. And for Lesson Zero, you need to see Winter Wrap Up, the Sleepover ep and Feeling Pinkie Keen, get a god grip for her being the sane one.

Most noob friendly? Hearths Warming Eve. You need virtually no background info on that for it to still be utterly heartwarming, completely hysterical and absolutely awesome.

while Luna Eclipsed is my fav episode this season its much better after watching the first season so Il have to go with Hearth's Warming Eve as well just cause it has all the ponies in it, a kick ass song at the end and some lore

Why Lesson Zero ofc. Although, the best thing to do is find out what interests the person you're sharing the show with and finding an episode that caters to their individual tastes.

My pick would be The Last Roundup. All of the Mane Six appear (and have a moment that let's them shine), and it's a good mix of the heart and humor that makes Friendship is Magic so good.

The only concern about the episode: the scene with Derpy.

@ProfessorOfHoers I'm sure what he meant was that a noob wouldn't get why the Derpy scene is so significant.

Lesson Zero might be too much for a new viewer to handle. I'd go with The Last Roundup.

The Scene with Derpy was one of the reasons someone I met last week became a fan of the show. He thought Derpy was cute. But honestly the last Roundup is one of the best episodes of the series even without the Derpy Scene

Lesson Zero, no question. Introduces the basic theme of the series and utterly obliterates all preconceptions about what the series is like.

My friends *just* got into the show, I'm still trying to convince them to give it more of a chance, but if I had to show them one episode of season 2, it'd be Luna Eclipsed.

^^ Multiple reasons. The formula allows for the show to be watched in any order.

@CatsTuxedo That's exactly what I meant.

The reason why I was a little concerned about the Derpy scene isn't because I hate him (in fact, Derpy is one of my favorite characters in the show), but rather the fact that some newcomers may not get the full idea of Derpy (i.e. the fact that she's really a background pony, with her scene in this episode being her biggest moment in the series so far).

People who actually think Lesson Zero is entertaining or a good representation of the show make me weep for this fandom.

Friendship is Magic is a character driven show and a Lesson Zero takes pre-established characters and throws them out the window for the sake of comedy and convenience. It is not only a poor representation of the show, but the worst episode thus far, and you should all feel bad.

Though I do think that the change it implemented to the rest of the shows structure was positive, to say one nice thing about it.

^^I'm not this passionately against Lesson Zero, but yeah, it's fucking overrated as hell and just plain ol' creepy and annoying. I can see somebody taking a liking to it just because it's so NOT what they would think a My Little Pony cartoon would be like, but I think it's obnoxiousness could also turn them away from it.

And since the poll has ended, there's no point in me recommending anything. I honestly don't know what episode I would go with from Season 2. Seriously, just start from the beginning and go in order. Maybe do a little skipping around if you get bored, but hopefully Applebuck Season will reel you in (it worked for me). Then again, I still wasn't super convinced that this show was nothing more than some stupid fad and a mild amusement at best until Sisterhooves Social aired. That isn't much of a "noob"-friendly episode though, but it's my favorite.

I have to really disagree here. I was pretty much introduced to the cartoon from Party of One. I thought it was hilarious, stayed on board. I know of bronies who were introduced from Lesson Zero as well.

I think some of you guys are overestimating the shock factor of these episodes. Hell, I've seen brony conversion from anything from Pinkie Keen to Mare Do Well before.

>super convinced that this show was nothing more than some stupid fad and a mild amusement

What?..... So the 20+ episodes of amazing episodes inbetween that and Sisterhooves amounted to nothing to you? Okay.....

>People who actually think Lesson Zero is entertaining or a good representation of the show make me weep for this fandom.

Not at all. Watch the very first episodes of this show again. This show was always about comedy and cartooniness first, the Mary Sue friendship stuff secondary. There's a reason why people call this the spiritual successor to Power Puff Girls. Because it brings the 90's cartoon craziness back. If we wanted rote friendships, then stuff like Strawberry Shortcake is a powerhouse of a show. There's tons of it there, albeit Mary-Sued to the nth degree. That's not why people are attracted to this show. We can get our morality lessons the same way in pretty much every childrens' cartoon.
