The Gala was the reason Return of Harmony (which was produced as the finale for Season 1) didn't air until Season 2. They wanted to end it on the thing they could sell toys of for the months between seasons, just like they'll be selling wedding stuff all summer. It's brilliant, especially when the writers are so good at making it work. |

I've got it:
Two-part episode in which Twilight considers moving to an elaborate mansion. In the end, she goes back to Ponyville, but not until we've seen enough of the mansion to sell the playset. Now all we need is more plot filler. |

You want plot filler? Twilight gets a coltfriend and decides to move away from Canterlot and Ponyville and start her own life. Her friends and family beg her to stay, and just as she decides to give in, they all have a change of heart and encourage her to stay in the mansion. Twilight gets replaced by a new pony for Season 4 and makes a heroic appearance in that season's finale. |

Well they need something to sell new toys, so yes there will be.
I just wish they'd let the show staff know earlier, I mean Lauren was smart enough to turn the Gala into an arc for Season 1. Hasbro didn't give the producers enough time to build up to the wedding in-show, seeing as how they let them know about it when Season Two was halfway done AT MOST. This doesn't translate well in-show because there's an upcoming Royal Wedding that's gone unmentioned. |

The rest of the Mane Six split up one by one at the beginning of Season 5. The entirety of Season 5 will be about the new friends they make. They all come together in the finale to sack Canterlot which has been seized by some ancient evil or whatever. Celestia and Luna pass away, Twilight is crowned Princess of Equestria, and the Mane Six plus friends make up her court.

Here's mandates I would expect...
1) Maybe a re-coronation for Luna, so that Hasbro can hawk more princess-ware. 2) Celestia makes Twilight a princess, see above. 3) Beach mansion party! (new playset!) Either of the first two would also make for an interesting finale if they cared to actually admit the series is ending at episode 65. |
