This's a request of mine, trom a bit of RP that happened a month or two ago. :) On Hearth's Warming Eve, Vinyl & Tavi traded presents, and this pic is part of what Vinyl did for her half of it. (the other part Tavi getting a custom made cello.)

Making Octavia and Vinyl Scratch play each others' musical styles does not make this ship any less cracky to me, and in fact I think it makes me like it less. It's out of character for Scratch to play classical, and it's out of character for Octavia to play techno. If the two of them can't be together without making changes, then they should not be shipped together.
Really, it's like shipping Applejack with Rarity-- the real Applejack would never move to Canterlot, and the real Rarity would not want to live on a farm, so what's the point of trying to pair them together when it would be a disservice to both of their characters? There's a difference between "opposites attract" and being incompatible, but not with shippers apparently, as evidenced by this being the most popular crack pairing in the fandom (to the point that some fans actually refuse to acknowledge that it's a crack pairing anymore). |

@1229825: We know zip about them other than what fans made up.. For all anyone knows, Vinyl has the biggest classical collection in the land & can play three instruments (not that she might let on, though). And Octavia could be a professional on stage, but a bigger "party girl" than PINKIE off of it. ;)
Though Tavi's player's been closer to the "Fanon" attitude & composure, I've been playing Vinyl as "wild & crazy because it's expected of her, but is getting tired of it", & we pull bits from various fics (Alegrezza, for one). Besides, trying new things & making the occasional compromises are a good part of relationships. :p tl;dr: Stop overthinking the ponies. ;) |

Okay I would like to say one thing to all of you that think that these two shouldn't be shipped. If you haven't already noticed this ship is one of the most popular ships in the fandom. This is showed in the fic Alegrezza that has gotten a big fandom and all of the comics and fics of them being shipped together. |

A piece of wisdom from Meowth(yes, the one from Pokémon) can help, he said that on Pokémon 2000 movie, and while I don't remember the exact quote(and I never watched the english version, only dubbed BR one), it goes more or less like this: "If we simply stop looking at what we have different, and look at what we have alike, maybe we could live in peace...", the same apply here, yes, they play fairly different music styles, but both are still musicians, even if they deslike each other's style they could still find something to get along and maybe even something more...
The way I view this pic, for example, was that they were already together, and had a fight, maybe over their musics(like Octavia practicing and Vinyl complaining about it), and as a way to make up for it, Vinyl tried to play a music for Tavi, Tavi's delightfullness isn't because of how well Vinyl is playing, but because she sees Vinyl going out of her way and learn at least the basics of a violin despite the fact she absolutelly hates it as a huge proof of love.(as for why Vinyl is on her underwear, they would be living together already, she got Tavi early on a saturday morning by surprise and have plans for a great day for both) |
