It may be a show for kids, and it has magic 'n' stuff, but it bugs me a bit that it doesn't teach the correct thing about something that happens in the real world like the rising sun.
I'm sure some kid already asked: "If Celestia raises the sun in Equestria, does it mean that Obama raises the sun for us?" (BTW, I'm not American.) |

@BigMax: Might as well complain about the pegasi controlling the weather, too, among others. Seriously, it's a show about magical talking marshmallow ponies. If you want a science lesson, go watch the Discovery Channel. |

I am unable to enjoy this picture, because Twilight crying just makes me sad no matter what.
Other than that, it's a really good image! |

Movement is relative. You can spin on your axis and say that you don't move and world turn around you. Its overcomplicated, somewhat ugly but not incorrect. To think that sun does not go around Earth, to believe holy books of science more than your own eyes this is the truly blind faith. |

Anon 415: Relative yes, absolute no. The suns motion/position in the universe isn't affected by the Earth. We see the movement of the sun because we are rotating. The spinning of our planet does not cause the entire universe to change position relative to anything else. If the Earth were to suddenly stop rotating there would be no change to the inertia of all other masses. (I.e. That lake of water on a distant alien planet isn't going to slosh around if our planet violently halts)
Nice try but attack science with something a bit more substantial next time-- it sounds to me like you're following a bit of 'blind faith' yourself. |

@7415: Don't you use your non-inertial frames of reference to muddy the issue! |

Anonymous@1217135 said: There's no need to put "science" in it, it's just knowledge. Very basic knowledge. And we can control the weather in some ways, but there's no way we can make the sun rise. Anonymous@1217415 said: Unnecessary sophism. I do believe my eyes when I notice that the movement of other celestial bodies would be absurdly complicated if you put the Earth at the center of the universe. This is where the "holy books of science" come from, and they're just books full of common sense for those who actually read them. But I guess the photos for the space are enough for (almost?) all of us, so we're talking about a gordian knot here. I have my religious views, by the way, but I've never had a hard time telling what's science and what's faith. |

@#1217124: The ponies live in a very different world where they are responsible for most natural occurrences, even for a young kid it's not that difficult a concept to grasp. |
