the bubble looked the same in return of harmony, and yeah it might also have been a forcefield, but we didn't know that it could do this..
and the end of return of harmony was kind of a special circumstance, it's interesting she can apparently do this at will. |

One of the key elements of Twilight's character is that she's a *freakishly* powerful magician, likely with more raw *oomph* than anyone in Equestria except the Princesses. Give her a couple of decades of experience, and she's going to be an archmage.
Of course, Twilight being Twilight doesn't quite seem to get how spectacularly powerful she is, just like she keeps forgetting that as Celestia's personal pupil and a national hero, she's a Very Important Pony on her own right. |

^Well it's more to do with the existence of these powerful spells. I mean, if Twilight can do them then so can the princesses (and probably a few other unicorns from Celestia's school). And I don't imagine Celestia would get flustered and forget how to put up a forcefield. |

And moving the sun != control over the sun's rays. I interpret it as really really strong telekinesis, given that the unicorns used to handle the sun and moon |

@FuzzyFenrir Maybe she could do that, but would she? Turning the sun into a weapon probably would do large amounts of collateral damage, ruining valuable landscape and potentially maiming and killing innocent bystanders. The sun as a weapon would be nuclear-equivalent option. Also you have to consider a couple other things. First, while she is a physical God, she doesn't have unlimited power, as she was overpowered by Discord. Two, before Celestia took reign along side her sister, the mortal unicorns raised and lowered the Sun and Moon. So it's not unreasonable to consider that a large enough group of capable unicorns would be able to wrestle Celestia for control of the Sun and even wrestle it away from her. |

Imagine say, Harry Potter-verse wizards
individually they can do impressive feats and they haev defensive spells and should logically be hard to kill but they can still be caught by surprise, by say a sniper bullet from a mile away. Same thing with Celestia. |

@FuzzyFenrir True. Trickery is very much more his style, but he has no qualms about taking a direct approach if pushed to do so. Just take discorded Fluttershy as an example. It's just that subtlety and subterfuge are more interesting and amusing options. |

For all we know, Discord's powers lie solely (or mostly) in messing with ponies' heads. The rapid changes between night and day could easily have been down to messing with Celestia and Luna rather than moving them himself. |

@nyxabuse Actually no. We know he was able to significantly warp reality, causing chunks of Ponyville to levitate, turning the road into soap, causing the hedge maze to shift at his whim. While it's not impossible that he did that by heavy manipulation of some unicorns, but the simpler explanation is that he has reality warping powers of a huge degree. He's basically the pony version of Q (right down to voice actor) which is understandable. I've heard that Lauren Faust designed the character after a Star Trek binge. |

There's two way's her not engaging Discord herself could be taken. One, that she's not as strong as him Or two, that they're both Gods, and fighting him would obliterate the surrounding area. And she didn't engage him because they were in the middle of the capitol city. |

Well, Celestia did say she and her sister both had to work together to take down Discord, using the Elements of Harmony. That would mean that Discord is as powerful or more powerful than a single Alicorn. Not saying it wouldn't cause severe damage to the surrounding if they did face off again, though. After all, these are gods we are talking about. |

Actually, her exact words were "Luna and I saw how miserable life was for [ponies], so after discovering the Elements of Harmony, we combined our powers and rose up against him" Didn't say they had to use the EoH. Personally, I think the three are on pretty equal ground, with the EoH simply being magnitudes more. Better to use overwhelming force that leaves nothing to chance, than even going into a throwdown, even a 2 on 1. (Ties into my thought that the creation of the Everfree was when Celestia and NMM fought, changing the fabric of reality. When Gods have a serious slugfest, they wreak the place, and wreak it for good!). Theorycrafting is magic. |
