Just because they shave their flanks and technically "erase" their cutie mark doesn't mean they can get rid of them.They are still there,when the fur grows back and no matter if you paint them they are still there...FOREVER. And the blank flanks adults are animations errors. |

blank flank adults- easily solvable, its called Dye.
I'm pretty sure hiding cutie marks would be easy with Dye or something, the Dye would fade over time, but you could just re-apply it. its getting your cutimark, or making a fake one that is the hard part. |

Personally, I think this means that cutie marks are based on a mutation of the colouration of the secretions from the follicles on the flank region, therefore it's a genetic issue which cannot easily be erased or removed either willingly or unwillingly. |
