I've thought this over, but they have so many different fur colors, it just seems wrong to make them all white.
Twilight Sparkle- Chinese. She's smart and has sharp eyes and a bowl cut. Rainbow Dash- Black. She's fast, athletic, and badass. Pinkie Pie- Very mixed. Part white for her blue eyes, part black for her frizzy hair, and part hispanic just because nobody else is. Rarity- White because her fur is white. Fluttershy- Japanese because she's yellow and seems Shinto enough. AppleJack- White because she's blonde. |

Except that the characters in Avatar are all clearly meant to resemble various races. The ponies all basically look the same, save for different colors/manes/whether their earth, pegasus or unicorn. This is not a good argument. |

If the mane cast was supposed to be diversified, there would be a mule or gryphon among them. For Equestrian standards they are pretty homogenous. The only non-pony among them is more of a sidekick (and a baby). |
