I see. Either way around it would have been good. The artist did really well on her, her face shape is very subtley nodding that way.
It's just hard for me to get over my own headcannon of Rarity being the MTF Transgender. |

I read a fic once, had potential (unfortunately it was poorly written) where it turned out Rarity was mtf transgender. I like that idea better than mtf Fluttershy. Can't even really say why. |

The semantics between Transsexual and Transgender are boring and confusing.
Transsexual is someone who plans to commit to gender reassignment surgery or hormones, as a way of actually "trans"ing (going across) sex, the physical characteristics. Someone who is Transgender, however, is more focused on "trans"ing the gender, or social aspects of one's sex; that is to say, even someone who's just a cross-dresser or (theoretically) a butch lesbian could be said to be transgender. But seriously nobody knows this stuff so whenever I talk to people who aren't actually GLBT, I just say transgender because saying transsexual makes it sound like I'm talking about sex. tl;dr = Either works for the purposes of casual conversation, but now you know~ |

Incorrect.
It's rather simple. All transsexuals are transgender but not all transgender people are transsexual. Transsexuals identify as the opposite sex - for example a MtF is a male assigned at birth who identifies as female. "Transgender" is an umbrella term which refers to many different genders and gender expressions (crossdressers, genderqueer, transsexuals, drag kings, drag queens, etc). |

okay, so if your body is one gender but your brain is the opposite you are transsexual?
And if your body is one gender and you associate with the other gender (to varying levels) your transgender, right? But just because you are transgender doesn't necessarily mean you think of yourself as being the opposite gender of your body. Do I got it now? |

Transgender is, basically, acknowledging and exploring the spectrum of gender as opposed to viewing it in black and white terms. But it's not often used that way, because it's usually -assumed- that Transgender is the same as transsexual (even though that's not the case).
In general, "Queer" is a safer term when referring to the blurring of gender binaries. (I say safer assuming you're clearly representing yourself as a LGBT ally and not a punk :P) |
