I though Shadow's memories were not real, but inserted, like he never really met Maria, or even left the tube he was created in; it happened that his creator grow insane and resentful and wanted Shadow to have a reason to destroy humanity or something.
I could be wrong, I never really got the whole mess. |

Wrong. In Sonic Heroes, Shadow DID search for answers. His own game's story was intirely him trying to figure out who he is. |

@Roboshi: Anon963 is right.
He actually did find answers in his game. And one of the (incredibly rare) good things about Sonic '06 is that his story cemented the fact that in Shadow he learned who he was, got over it, and moved on with his life by working for G.U.N. |
