There are things about it I really enjoy and things about it I despise. I find myself very torn. The graphics and the gameplay are not so good. I especially dislike the battle scenes. I also didn't find myself truly engrossed by any of the characters.
Despite this I still found the experience to be very unique and filled with humor and spirit. So, it leaves an odd taste in my mouth to say the least. |

Earthbound never did have the pizazz and visual flair of Square's offerings on the same platform. The battle system did actually have some interesting mechanics here and there, but it was still insistent on being a parody or reference to the Dragon Quest series, which is unfortunately and undeniably archaic and not at all appealing unless you had some imagination to spice up the text-based battles.
But, it's probably one of the most unique offerings on the system, giving its own original take on things without getting incredibly esoteric. Behind all the shenanigans the player is expected to do, like erasing a giant iron pencil with a "Pencil Eraser" item, or reuniting a white and black sesame seed in the desert, lies a game that, at its heart, is truly just a simple story with simple virtues, told in a very memorable way. It's a game with heart, from beginning to end. ...Sorry. I like Earthbound and the Mother series in general. |

I guess ProfessorOfHoers has bad tastes in gaming. Gameplay is great, and graphics aren't THAT bad. |
