Instead of trying to tear people down because you disagree, why not just let them be? |

"[Fluttershy hiding in the tree] could not have been anything but a nod to us."
Maybe. Or perhaps it's just a coincidental gag. Maybe the writers did a subtle callback on their own. |

but it was a reference to over a barrel. |

I'm actually suprised there are so few pictures about it. When i saw it, a expected a flood of 'Fluttershy becae ma tree' pics. |

Silly Heinous, humanity's too stupid for that.
Why do you think we love ponies so much? |

She could have been in disguse as a rock or a bush or a haystack or something, since that's what most "cartoon moments" using this sort of gag would use. I'd say the fact it's something like a tree, not something that would normally be used, has got to have SOME meaning behind it. |

Didn't one of the writers say it was a call back they did because of the fans? |
| ProfessorOfHoers #1185812 3 months ago |
I enjoyed it. It's possible to make nods to the fans without it interrupting or screwing up your story arcs. |

Anyone who has actually read Cereal's summaries before knows he loves to use hyperbole.
I'm pretty sure he was half-joking here. |

They came up with the idea of fluttershy wanting to be a tree. Not the fans |
| Anonymous #1186690 3 months ago |
and apparently, there are some people who hate that they're "pandering" to the fans like this? for christ's sake, it's a direct call back to something THEY CAME UP WITH. they probably noticed that the fans thought that "I want to be a tree" was a riot (and it is), but they're probably as amused by it as we are and wanted to do it just because they can. it's a great gag, great callback, and hey, i completely forgot about the tree line from over a barrel in the first place, so there's at least one guy who didn't immediately make the connection. then again, as much i sincerely enjoy the show, i'm still not as big on it as a lot of other people are. i've only rewatched a handful of episodes. i do intend on rewatching at least the entire second season once it's over, but it's not something i'm going to do often afterwards. maybe i'm not a good example, sorry. |
