Memetic conditioning, perhaps? IIRC, that particular way of shaping a headwrap is used by muslims (only), as far as I know?

@307 Not true ^_^ Head wraps are commonplace in many eastern European countries, and there is little variance in shape. Also, certain branches of Judaism still wear head wraps.

The Hajib is based on ancient Mesopotamian headscarves like what most women wore in the Jewish Torah and what Mary wore in Christian Bible. People need to realize this.

anon 307 here: Ah, alright. Knowledge I didn't have (which I stressed that I might not have). Well, good to know.

Hmh. I just recalled that apparently, back in the ancient times, wealthy women wore headwraps to protect their hair against dirt and the like, an option poor women didn't have. (Ancient) Islam took up the practice to appear wealthy. Also, I've said my piece, no need to turn this into a ten second-scroll thread.

When I was younger I probably wouldn't expect anyone wearing a headwrap/scarf to be Muslim. In today's political climate, though, I guess I do make that assumption without thinking about it.

Still, I get the feeling that -not- assuming someone wearing a headwrap was Muslim would get me into more socially awkward situations than the alternative.

Well, other people may wear them, but the fact that she's ALSO depicted as an Arab naturally makes people jump to the conclusion that she's Muslim.

That's true, not everyone who wears a headscarf is a muslim. My grandma wears one because she gets cold in the winter, and my sister wears one because she's filthy hipster scum.

Regular headscarves do not hide all the hair. The hijab is put on in a distinct way with the express purpose of hiding the hair and neck in its entirity.

Old people sometimes wear head wraps when it's raining but you can always see some hair, because they don't care about showing it.

Let's not pretend that a square is a triangle just to make islam apologists and chronically PC people happy.

^ Someone cared enough to make a pony confession about it and post it here.

You can't start a discussion and when someone replies just say "well I really don't care".

Interestingly enough you felt the need to call me out, out of all the people who posted here and said something about the issue my post is the only one about which you don't care? In fact you don't care about it so hard that you felt the need to comment on it.

They called you out specifically because you inevitably show up on any picture regarding the topic and you're ALWAYS an enormous prick who stirs up arguments.

^ Because pointing out simple facts makes me a prick.

And no, I don't always comment on such pictures, just when there's some bullshit in the comments that needs to be corrected, as was the case here. If I leave the idiocy unchallenged, people might actually believe that a hijab isn't always religious in nature.
