actually people used to (and some of us still do) call her derpy or ditzy intercheangebly, it wasn't until the derpy drama that most other people started disliking Ditzy actively, personally i don't care and in my head canon Ditzy is her name, derpy is her nickname, Doo was her maiden name and Hooves is her married last name (or was it the other way around 9_6... ) |

Ditzy Doo always fit as a better name than Derpy Hooves for me, going with the canon of the show. When Rainbow called her "Derpy" in The Last Roundup, I took it as canon. Now that the fiasco that was the iTunes thing has left her name's status in debt, though, I have no idea what to call her.... |

^I never cared much for the name derpy hooves either, and not because i think its offensive. Just don't like it much. It tends to come off as being too masculine and the name Ditzy Doo sounds infinitely cuter. Besides its a name that Lauren Faust came up with for a silly pony; and we all know how awesome Lauren is. |

I wrote a fic where she's called Ditzy (it's a romance fic) but a rich bully related to Mayor Mare calls her Derpy Hooves, which catches on because of his influence. It makes her life hell for a while, but she accepts it, as long as it's her friends that call her Derpy. Nopony else is allowed. |

I wouldn't call Amy Keating Rogers "out of the loop" at all, considering that she wrote The Last Roundup, and is currently the story editor for the entire series (because Renzetti left). You don't get any more IN the loop than that unless your name is Jayson Thiessen. Plus, Lauren did mention a while ago that she'd thought about using Ditzy-Doo to refer to our Derpy, but said we could call her Derpy in the meantime. If she hadn't left MLP, I believe that Derpy-as-Ditzy would have been made canon at some point. And for whatever it's worth, I take a third option. In my head, "Ditzy-Doo" is her real name but "Derpy" is a (not very nice) nickname that stuck with her. She takes it in stride because she's awesome that way. |

The rest of the team, including Lauren, picked up "Derpy" before that episode was even written. And actually, Lauren pretty much outright stated that Derpy would stay Derpy because so many people liked it. @1179325 You wish. @1179361 Cause BDR is one of those sheep who heard "Ditzy Doo" in that one episode and immediately thought it HAD to be Derpy, regardless of the complete lack of proof. |

The only instance in which it bothers me is when the fic makes a point of saying "don't call her Derpy, it's offensive!". The term "derp" is NOT offensive. If people prefer Ditzy because they like it better, that does not bother me. It only bothers me when somepony gets on their high horse and tries to tell me that I should feel bad for calling her Derpy. For example, in one fic I read, one character had called her Derpy, only to be lectured by the other ponies and told to all her Ditzy instead. THAT bothers me. However, the name Ditzy Doo itself does not offend nor anger me. |
