Airsoft is a combat simulation sport that the players take quite seriously, the guns look like real guns (Replica firearms) and the tactics and scenarios used are taken from real world military and law enforcement situations.
Such games as rescuing VIPs, patrol ambushes, clearing areas and flanking manuvers.

Paintball by comparison is a lot simpler, nobody takes it quite so seriously, but there is also not as much depth.
Such games as capture the flag and fragmatches (counting number of kills)

I'm an Airsofter, and I've nothing against Paintball.

Incorrect.
The ONLY difference between airsoft and paintball is gun.
What you can play in airsoft, you can play in paintball, and vice-verse.

@ Drainpipe, My replica SA80 has plastic grips, everything else is metal.... kinda like the real one.
Add to that its not some cheap "BB gun" that you pick up for next to nothing, its a well tuned machine.

@Equine because if I shoot people with real guns, the die. Airsoft is for combat SIMULATION.
I shoot real guns as well, but not all airsofters or painballers do.

@Anon559, Every time I've been to a PB game they play the same type of game you get in computer games, CTF, fragmatches, and "Speedball"
You CAN play mill-sim with paintball guns, but nobody does, because If your going to that level, you play airsoft.

I've played paintball milsim with people who are now professional soldiers. Said milsim games was also organized by an off-duty Swedish National Defense Force lieutenant.
Quit saying that airsoft is on a higher level, because they are for pretty much all intents and purposes, equal.

@Equine, I didn't but I wasn't offended, airsoft has a bad reputation from everybody for no good reason.
Real gun shooters look down on us because they think we are "wanabe soldiers" or are just breaking laws and mucking about giving them a bad image.
Paintballers look down on us because we take things more seriously than they do (not that light hearted fun is a bad thing :D) and are just so totally jelous that our guns look cooler :P.
Then, of course, you have the media who paint us as terrorists in training for the next school shooting with replica guns that can totally be converted into live fire guns.... yea.... right.

@ Nerfers, Nerf guns are cool too :P

@anon594 As I said, I've nothing against paintball, I prefer airsoft because of the games USUALLY PLAYED. you turn up to a public airsoft game and you get half the people there who can't tell an AK from an MP5 and havn't the first idea about firearm safety, just like at a public paintball match. but then you go off and play some in depth games where public paintball games cater to the computer games crowd.

Never been to private paintball game, and no offence to you and your sport, but I don't want to, I've spent too much money on airsoft ><

Keep shooting and stay safe :D.

Last reply, before I go to sleep.
"you turn up to a public airsoft game and you get half the people there who can't tell an AK from an MP5 and havn't the first idea about firearm safety, just like at a public paintball match."
I think we can cut some corners here and just saying "public weapon-anything"

"public paintball games cater to the computer games crowd."
I disagree there, but there may be some culture difference responsible for that.

"Never been to private paintball game, and no offence to you and your sport, but I don't want to, I've spent too much money on airsoft ><"
You could always try getting a few friends together for a rental game, much adrenaline to be had (especially with prior experience with tactics from you airsoft games)

"Keep shooting and stay safe :D."
You too. =)
