Not really abuse... But, with this kind of conditioning you have to be incredibly careful. As in, once should be enough.

My aunt trained her dog with what she called "the naughty stick", so there's some truth to this.

Too bad fluffy ponies almost immediately block out bad memories. The trick is to cuddle them when they do something bad, and calmly tell them what they did wrong while tickling them, otherwise they'll just do the same things again, resulting in a furious owner that will hit them.

Fluffy Pony both lived and wasn't hurt too badly, I consider this a happy ending

What? No, that's stupid. If you cuddle them, it reinforces the bad thing as something they should do to get more hugs. You don't know anything about fluffy ponies.

2380 - The majority of Fluffy Ponies, barring a few aberrations, can only imprint things and form new neural pathways if positive reinforcement is used.

They CAN learn from being told things, but only if they're being cuddled, nose-booped, or petted while it's happening, so they have a positive emotion to connect it with.

Hitting them doesn't do a damn thing but scare them and make them block out the experience faster, meaning it will almost certainly be repeated.

yeah, 2380, I know Fluffy pony stories aren't super consistent but this is an element that is brought up frequently that Fluffy ponies don't remember bad things, they block it out, that's why they're willing to repeat actions that cause them harm until they die

It's dust speck-sized fluffbrain can't remember anything for longer than 5 minutes. Fluffy ponies are born with all the knowledge they can have in their entire life (how to walk, hug and to breath), they don't learn from positive reinforcement either. What they will remember five minutes later is that they got huggsies for making oopsies, and then they'll repeat it, because fluffy ponies crave hugs (that's what they were created for in the science labs). By applying the sorry stick, it will not make oopsies for at least a whole day, because the pain will make it remember. The sorry stick would of course be useless without the pain component which is far better than hugs at reminding fluffy ponies how not to make oopsies.
Tsss, amateurs.
