yep. pretty much my only problem with black twilight. that and I still head canon her as middle eastern/indian.
Also the fact that the people who do it can't seem to do a black skin tone to save their life. |
| Anonymous #1155650 4 months ago |
So this guy complains about fact Twilight doesn't has the different facial structures and design elements of a back character? Fine, but what’s about her eye color? How many humans withe or not have purple eyes? So should everybody give humanized Twi blue or green eyes or isn’t that as important?
Also who does really place unnecessary emphasis on the race of the character? Those people who draw one or more of the Mane Six as non-with or those people who create. I doubt most artist draw Twilight black because of political correctness. I believe somebody just draws her with a dark skin tone and a lot of people thought “He that looks good.” And so “black Twilight” became the head canon for some artists. Just like many people give humanized Fluttershy large breast, while RD on the other had is rather flat-chested. There’s no secret agenda behind this. People just like the way the characters look. |

Well this Niggertron seems like a well informed and loving fellow. I'm sure he has no prejudice of his own or is the construction of someone who holds such prejudice. |
| Anonymous #1159110 3 months ago |
Exactly, Twilight should not be drawn as a Nigger |

| Anonymous #1160890 3 months ago |
Yeah I don't know where they claim this pressure is coming from to make ponies different races. Artist tend to get a lot more shit for making Twilight black or Indian than they would if she was just white. I've never seen a serious shitstorm on a white humanization page. So really if an artist makes multiracial ponies its because they want to. Fail argument is fail |
| GreyAcumane #1162463 3 months ago |
its not peer pressure, its "artistic elitism"
people who honestly consider themselves "artists" don't actually produce a physically useful product. It's entertainment, so in order to actually contribute to society, those artists must either cater to public demans (commisions, which frequently, though obviously not always, end up being porn) or they must make their art "socially progressive" in order to offset the fact that they are making something no one else likes. Its not pressure from "fans" or "society" so much as perceived "peer" pressure, and their own perceptions for what it means to be an "artist" |
| Anonymous #1169606 3 months ago |
Uh huh..
What makes you think she's Black in many artworks and not, say, Indian? |
| Anonymous #1172170 3 months ago |
Twi seems more white to me. I don't get where people think shes asian or black. I'd think of her more as a whitey white D&D, magic, rpg playing nerdy type. |
| Anonymous #1188597 3 months ago |
I duno about all this.
I like a dark skinned Twi for three reasons. 1. He Fur is purple which is, you know, a dark color. 2. If she didn't have some pigment she'd probably look Pasty and Pale because she really doesn't seem to get out in the sun much... That could maybe be cute in a Panty and Stocking way, but not really my thing. 3. Her characterization is a bit like Tiana from Princess and the Frog, who is my favorite Disney Princess. (A man can like Ponies, so a man should be allowed to watch Princess movies too.) So I always thought of a human Twi as looking a bit like her. |

~Late to the party on this one, but oh well~
Niggertron speaks the truth! (I hate using the n-word, but it's kind of unavoidable here) If an artist is going to make one of these characters "Black", then they have an obligation to understand that black people (nearly always) have very different facial structures than Whites. They also don't have straight hair without copious amounts of relaxant. This is fact. Plus, dark skin (at least the way these artists depict it) usually clashes badly with the colours of Twi's hair and clothes. Purple is a "dark" colour. So what? So is navy blue, and very few draw Luna as Black. So is deep magenta, and nobody draws Berry Punch or Cheerilee as Black. So is brown, and no one thinks Doctor Whoof is Black. Spike's scales are almost the exact same colour as Twilight's coat, yet depicting him as Black is very rare. So why Twilight and not them? And honestly, Twilight's coat colour is more of a lavender (a light purple) than anything. Yes, I think it is a (probably) subconscious desire on the part of artists to be politically-correct. Anybody who's American and grew up after 1980 has been brought up in the era of political correctness. We all watched Sesame Street with its urban melting pot, as well as all the after-school specials and things that tried (and failed) to carry the better parts of SS's message forward. We all remember those Saturday morning cartoons that took place in the suburbs where there was an ensemble kid cast made up almost entirely of tokens: a blond-haired blue-eyed White boy who was the main character and often failed at life, one Black boy, one white girl (who was probably smarter and/or stronger than every single boy in the cast), a Latino or Asian (who'd either be a sports prodigy or a computer geek), and a kid in a wheelchair (who was also more athletic than everyone else except maybe the girl). These types of shows tried to foster "diversity" as the ultimate good, but pushed it too hard and made it feel incredibly forced. They tried to be post-racial, but the poor handling of it made everything worse, replacing negative stereotypes with positive ones but were still stereotypes (oddly, "Hey Arnold" was one of the few shows to handle diversity well). Honestly, what kid growing up actually had a group of close friends that diverse? Very few if any. And that is what Black!Twilight represents to me: the extreme political correctness that's been the rule since the early 90's. Diversity for diversity's sake rather than any genuine reason. A cast doesn't "need" a Black member any more than it "needs" a White member. There's nothing inherently wrong with an all-White cast, especially in a small town like Ponyville where (if they were human) you wouldn't expect racial diversity. There's nothing wrong with people seeing everypony in their headcanon as White. It's just the way some people think. And honestly, they have slightly more justification for their views than the "diversity" crowd. And don't even get me started on Black-every-other-pony or Muslim Fluttershy; that's just... ugh. This is My Little Pony. All the principal voice actresses are as White as you can get. Therefore, their characters as humans would probably also be White. QED. |
