@Gundlach He specifically excavates for relics and searches old ruins.
I closest thing I came up with by myself was Treasure Hunter... But A. That would imply he was a treasure hunter, not an Archeologist. And B. Another character in the story is named Hunter, so I would run into a bit of name clashing. |

A bit of insight into the character and his role.
He's a middle-aged Canterlot-bred colt who gave up that life in favor of the pursuit of history. Unfortunately, he found himself smitten by a Griffon by the name of Dawnwing (whom might I add, is also of the archaeologist variety), and as such been treated as somewhat of an underling by the majority of the historian community. His role is essentially that he sets the story into motion. He and Dawnwing uncover the sealed entrance to an uncharted channel of ruins, seemingly made of a black metal with an eerie green symbol marking the door. |

I actually dig the idea of starting the name with professor, but in context of the story I can't give him a name of a differing language. In the setting there are only two places a pony would come from, the first being Equestria (Which all pony settlements are a part of), and the other is off-world. @652 Vitage Vase is actually really good. Also, the character's full name is technically Clyde "Hunter" Pie, one of the main characters just refers to him as Hunter. |

Vree's got the right idea going with TV Tropes, but they have a totally fleshed-out (INCREDIBLY DEEP) Daring Do project under Just For Fun; there's even a character sheet with a couple dozen entries. It's not show-official or anything, but it is DAMN impressive, and as a troper myself, I highly recommend it for any of your Daring Do-based needs. |
