Merriweather Williams A.K.A. Aliens! |
| Anonymous #1151711 4 months ago |
Looks like Fuzzy_Logic's logic truly is fuzzy, seeing as how he can't seem to understand why Spike would be insulted with Rarity basically treating him like a kid. |
| Anonymous #1151740 4 months ago |
^No way, it was because she wasn't treating him like a badass dragon.
She prefers feminine, boyish guys, apparently. Big surprise there ... |
| Anonymous #1151766 4 months ago |
Aw, come on. Really? "Love" doesn't mean "easily manipulated". Rarity baby-talking to Spike wasn't going to make him stop being determined to learn what being a dragon means. I don't see an issue with this scene at all. |
| mindcannon #1151768 4 months ago |
>mfw when I dont overlook the actual show. |
| Anonymous #1151783 4 months ago |
^Or perhaps in that vein, boyish girls. Oh yeaaaah... |

Merriwether Williams writing for SpongeBob: Funny as fuck.
Merriwether Williams writing for My Little Pony: Not as enjoyable. |

Am I the only person that thinks these episodes are awesome? |
| Yurp #1151812 4 months ago |
No you are not Mindcannon |
| Anonymous #1151827 4 months ago |
I liked the episode. |
| CottonTales #1151840 4 months ago |
@mindcannon
I liked this episode and most other Merriweather episodes |
| Anonymous #1151848 4 months ago |
So, according to this image, having a person you have a puppy love crush on show you any affection should be a higher priority than finding out the meaning of your existence and self-worth? SOUNDS LEGIT! |
| hurr #1151940 4 months ago |
>fawned over
>in a "omg what a cute puppy" way >NOPE.jpeg BRB, migration. |
| Anonymous #1151944 4 months ago |
I can see she's improving since the Mare-Do-Well episode. |
| Fuzzy_Logic #1151945 4 months ago |
No, according to this image ignoring spike's established "holy shit rarity is acknowledging my presence" paralysis disease is a bit silly |
| nyxabuse #1151958 4 months ago |
^OH SHIT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!1!! |
| nyxabuse #1151968 4 months ago |
how can anyone think it's a bad thing for spike to have more character than just having a crush on rarity
especially when she blatantly doesn't return it she thinks of him as twilight's kid brother this ship isn't going to happen |
| BattleGT #1152074 4 months ago |
Didn't like the way Rarity was written this episode that's my only gripe. I'm not whning about it I just think the emphasis on her passion fashion could have been turned down a bit |
| Anonymous #1152101 4 months ago |
@BattleGT I agree with you. I love Rarity and she's my favorite pony, but sometimes I think they take her a little over the top, to the point that it's almost obnoxious. I think she's savvy enough to know when to tone it down a little bit (like that red carpet and confetti). |
| Zancrow #1152109 4 months ago |
I so knew that his was posted by Fuzzy xD
Well, that's what happens in shows with so many different writers. No consistency. |
| Anonymous #1152135 4 months ago |
@anon101: You're talking about a pony who brings a chaise lounge around with her in case of drama emergency. Subtle, Rarity is not. |
| nyxabuse #1152157 4 months ago |
it is consistent though
spike started off being all '...' not able to speak to rarity then he was slavishly helping her out, being her pincushion and taking out her trash and trying to save her from diamond dogs since secret of my excess, it's all out in the open now rarity is making it clear that she doesn't return his feelings, by treating him as a kid I don't think 'BAAW you're going to run away, that's adorable' counts as 'fawning' really |
| TobiasKazama #1152209 4 months ago |
@1152101
The red carpet and confetti was my favourite part of the episode. |

I liked this episode |

Merriwether Williams isn't necessarily a bad writer in general, but she's just not right for FiM. She's not good with subtlety and disregards characterization for the sake of gags. With Spongebob, it wasn't a big deal, but here it was quite jarring. |
| Anonymous #1152555 4 months ago |
^Agreed 1000% |
| PinkieDie #1152613 4 months ago |
He's not mad because Rarity is playing with him, he's upset because Rainbow Dash hit a sore spot and kept teasing him about it.
It's Rainbow's Fault... |
| PinkieDie #1152654 4 months ago |
I mean, I know you Dash fans will defend her no matter how much her fault it was... Just look at Mare-Do-Well...
But the writer did a fine job with this one, Spike was so upset even his crush couldn't calm him. |
| Anonymous #1152978 4 months ago |
MW is fine with subtlety. Case in point, the lgbt undertones in this episode were subtle enough that apparently nobody actually picked up on them in favor of other, irrelevant stuff. |
| RealityCheck #1153141 4 months ago |
Dude. Spike was being WORSE than FriendZoned--- he was being BabyBrotherZoned. |
| Anonymouz #1153182 4 months ago |
MW must have been given "extra" instructions for this episode and write Rarity with more affection towards Spike instead of having her ignore him like she usually does. I mean, Rarity was way more worried about Spike than Twilight was.
It would only make sense that MW would write Spike ignoring the affection because if he went and acknowledged it at the time, it would've killed the "seriousness" of Spike's intention to migrate. In the side lines, the crush has always been used as a gag. In this case, MW didn't want to run with it as a gag. At least not with Spike's side this time. |

Merriwether Williams has actually left the show to work on Adventure Time as their head writer fulltime. So this is probably the last of her episodes you'll see on MLP. |
| Anonymous #1155661 4 months ago |
I really like MW, except for MMDW.
This scene was Spike's alphaest moment and generally she gives a very joyful slapstick tone to the show. |
