Oh well you can counter this argument with one sentence:

If the dude is so worried about emasculation, he shouldn't be watching a cartoon for little girls. Just sayin'.

Remember when we loved everything about this cartoon, and didn't complain about minor shit?

Why can't I go back to those days?

Seriously though, this is such nonsense and at a certain level this really bothers me. I grew up and got around some bad crowds growing up. That's what it's about.

I used to skip high school and we would go and vandalize things, and steal, and get high and drink and jam in our bands all night. (The last part was authentically fun!)

It's obvious that this episode was about overcoming peer pressure and being ok with not having to be part of the group.

He/she's just pissed there weren't any girl dragons so they couldn't give Spike a canon dragon girlfriend.

Unless of course OP believes part of becoming a "man" is being an asshole and leaving your moral compass in the garbage.

SPECIEIST, the new addition to the dictionary

Also, I call ableism on how retards get more comments and recognition than normal posters. Seriously, bitchng about many-times-used-in-a-cartoon-bad-influence-cliche being used in a cartoon is just stupid.
Thank you, have a nice day.

Oh okay. So imagine in a fictional world where there are multiple sentient species, but some of these species are clearly violent and mean. Is it still wrong to reject being part of that species in favor of another?

Please don't take "everyone's equal and good and you should always be yourself no matter what" as some kind of universal truth, especially in fiction.

Is it possible that anon actually doesn't have a problem with this episode but is just conjuring up bullshit to be offended about as (another fucking) commentary on the Derpy Incident?

The episode was clearly allegorical, but of what was not made entirely clear. Even though I liked it, I understand where the criticism is coming from. To a degree, OP is probably projecting, but let's not just throw out his opinion as invalid just because we don't agree.

I see where the guy could possibly be coming from I liked the episode but must agree that Spike calling himself a pony was silly and saying he'll teach the phoenix to act like a pony too was stupid
...but I'm not one to take a cartoon all too seriously so I don't really care all that much

@CottonTales

Its an allegory but an allegory of what? Does OP think that dragons = boys and ponies = girls? Maybe but I think it was more like dragons = jerks and ponies = friendly.

If Spike said he's gonna raise his phoenix as a pony could simply imply he's gonna raise the phoenix to be friendly. I dunno. That's what I think.

I saw it more of just a "don't fall into the wrong crowd" sort of moral. Imagine (target audience here) that you're a kid. Your parents and family have taken care of you (spike's a kid after all) your whole life and now you meet a group of older kids and you want to fit in.

That's sort of how I took the message. I could be wrong.

@Anonymouz
I don't care it's still silly to say it like that I think being yourself was the message of the episode but for him to consider himself a pony at the end was kind of not the best way to relay that message

Sort of agree with OP, but this is another case of "alternate moral", like when Rarity and the Diamond Dogs taught us "If you're kidnapped, piss off your captor to the point that they pay you to leave; It'll totally work!".

I do think Spike isn't a pony.

Also, the theme could be called "xenophobic" (an actual word) not "speceist" (brought to you by the makers of "ableist"). Learn to dictionary, OP!

spoilers: Rarity is that dragon. Twilight eventually learns to focus the body swap spell on a single person.
