I rather figured ahab as the type that would either chuck an unsharpened sword as trash or sharpen it himself, ceremony or no. |

Ahab likes his trophies especially the fancier ones from his adventurer days, which is a problem with a first mate who likes to play around with shiny things. I don't think he'd ever risk sharpening it, if only because it would probably be incredibly impractical as an actual fighting weapon. |
