But Akira Toriyama didn't make Broly, that was Toei Animation for the movies. Someone once asked Toriyama to draw Broly for them and he didn't even remember who Broly was. |

Dang, but Akira sure does forget alot of characters in the Dragon Ball franchise. Some, like Broly, are kinda justified by virtue of not being "directly" involved with them, but others, like Launch from the original, he just has no excuse. |

Brolly's not a Mary Sue, he's a force-of-nature type villain. Often boring in their own way, sure, but a key trait of actual Mary Sues is never losing or being in the wrong, neither which can be applied to what's basically a monster of the week. |

You want Mary Sue? Let's talk about Future Trunks.
Achieves the legendary state of Super Saiyan less than a year after Goku. Keep in mind that the Super Saiyan was supposed to be something that happened ONCE every ONE THOUSAND YEARS. Ultimately, this was the first sign that devalued the Super Saiyan transformation, and as a result, Bardock, who's supposed to be killed by Freeza, is a Super Saiyan, and there exists a Super Saiyan FOUR. Beats Freeza with a few shots. Freeza took a tail slicing by a Kienzan, a beating by Piccolo in his Second Form, a beating by Goku in his Final Form, a Genki Dama drawn from the power of not just Namek, but the planets around Namek, a beating from Super Saiyan Goku at 100% power, his own attack slicing him, a beam to the face, and a planetary explosion. He's no Saiyan, but it's said that his Mecha form is stronger than his organic form. And Trunks just slices him in half with ONE HIT with a sword Goku can block, slices him into thousands of pieces with the same sword, then blows the ashes away. At first you think it's awesome, but then you realize how much effort it really took to bring down Freeza. Is the son of Vegeta and Bulma. Throughout Dragon Ball, we've been lead to believe that Yamcha and Bulma would get together. This was when Yamcha was still reason competent. All of a sudden, the official couple is broken up just to support a couple no one asked for, and was most unlikely to ever happen, happened OFFSCREEN, just to make sure an OTP was satisfied and Yamcha suffered. Redeems Vegeta. Vegeta is a heartless monster, plain and simple. It's not clear in the dub of Z, but in the Japanese version and in Kai, it's quite obvious how evil Vegeta is. He doesn't even care about his own race, and would kill members of it himself if they failed him. In the filler, he even DESTROYS A WHOLE PLANET FOR KICKS. And then some kid from the future causes him to feel anguish for FAMILY when he dies. Sets up a plot that's a ripoff of The Terminator. Stop me if you heard this one: A man from the future wants to prevent a bleak future. He is followed by a unique android that wants to [kill/absorb] two members of a family to ensure it happens. This is not a coincidence, I assure you. Sadly, this is not a fanfic character. He was created by the original mangaka. Gosh, I hate the Cell Saga. |

I personally like Future Trunks, it isn't like DBZ got a huge epic story to being with, even if he isn't a good character from a narrative point of view, at least he is cute. |
