JJ was active since around year 2000 as far as showing his stuff for the public. His stuff was just about on par for any beginner for webcomic. Pretty decent, but very rough around the edges:

If he puts effort to line-art his Pony sketches and colors it, it is downright professional caliber. It's kind of unfair to judge him on quickie-sketches for the bronies. |
