If the brony-marketed toys are a success, we'll see more made, and seeing Octy's popularity she's sure to be on the list of candidates

To be fair, this one will probably cost about $15-30 while the official ones are a nice, parent's wallet friendly $5.

Come on, Jack, making toys isn't as simple as you make it out to be. You have to take into account a lot of things, like the cost of producing them and their durability.

I'll bet that tiny, thin neck of this particular Octavia, despite being closer to the show than Pinkie's thicker one, would break easily during play.

And molded hair is nice, yes, but it's expensive, and believe it or not, brushable toys have great appeal to little girls, who may buy them even having no idea who the characters are. That's likely why even the brony toys still have dollhair; That way both bronies and little girls will buy them. It's called meeting halfway.

Also I prefer supporting THEM.They are the ones who run the pony thing as a whole after all.

A 3D printer must cost a fortune though.

Ah, that's where you're wrong 214. You can get the kit required to assemble a fully working 3d printer for around 600$ to 1300$

http://reprap.org/wiki/RepRap
http://www.makerbot.com

The reprap can be even cheaper if you find someone with a reprap printer that can create all the non-electronic parts you need (get it? Self-replicating printers).

Why purchase a printer when one can just use Shapeways.com?

anon1142214: This is a higher quality, profesional 3d printer. However, there are 3d printers made (some are kit built) which are less expensive. For example the Makerbot Replicator is (for a start) $1749 that prints from plastic filament which I think is at least the same quality as Shapeways. However, I do not know the standards of quality between Shapeways and a Makerbot to compare.

I just threw my screen at my screen, and the loop in spacetime allowed me to reach through and get it :P

misnamed - I'm pretty sure you wouldn't call this Octavia a "toy". It's more like a "figurine". A little work of art, meant for display rather than playing with.

It's doubtful Hasbro would make any money selling items like these, as there really isn't a large enough market for themto be profitable. I could see them produced by fans in small-scale lots for the niche market.

Of course, it also depends on whether the Hasbro folks would consider it trademark infringement and crack down on them. If it's a small enough market, they may well decide to ignore it, though.
