Gotta side with Gilda here. Gilda was, at worst, a little bit of a jerk who committed a minor theft, whereas New Fluttershy was an outright sadistically cruel bully who tore at her friend's insecurities. |

plus so many people hate gilda for making Fluttershy cry, but to gilda, Flutters was just someone in her way and being annoying by not speaking up. |

to be fair, Gilda never got a chance to redeem herself. And, beside the one scene where she was a jerk, she only got mad at Pinkie and that was because at first she wasn't giving her and Dash any alone time, then because she thought that she was stalking and harassing her with increasingly aggravating pranks. at the end of it she snapped and lost her temper, as most would do if they thought that someone was getting in between them and an old friend. |

I could do a big review of their behavior, bit it'll be TL:DR for most.

People demonize Gilda way too much. Everything she did to Pinkie was justified, and they were clearly trying to wind her up at the party. Therefore the only things we can really hold against her are yelling at Fluttershy and stealing an apple.
Yelling at Fluttershy: I'm not trying to say that it's okay to go around screaming at people, but seriously, there's so many worse things you can do than just yell at someone for 3 seconds. Gilda was already in a bad mood from Pinkie, so her being a total dick to Fluttershy is understandable/forgiveable. Stealing an apple: Okay, it's an act of theft, but come on - what's the price of an apple? Like, 0.1 bits? If Applejack can afford to give BonBon two entire sackfuls as compensation for a small inconvinience, then stealing 1 apple, while still wrong, doesn't exactly make you the reincarnation of Hitler. As for Gilda redeeming herself, she might have tried to had she not fled the party (as anyone else would in her position). |
