We-eeeell, she could legitimately be a Princess if Equestria was a principality. Principalities were the next step down from Kingdoms, and were usually ruled by princes and princesses rather than kings or queens. |

Celestia could be a queen if she wanted. She could be an empress if she wanted.
She just likes the word "Princess" more. |

Hell, she should be called a "goddess" they alude to this fairly often on the show. The reason she's a "princess" instead of a "queen" is because Hasbro pressured the show to call her a princess. Because Hasbro is still in the girly dark-ages where "princess" means a pure sweet young thing; while a queen usually means an older cruel woman (yes Hasbro still thinks its Snow White and the Seven Dwarvs era).
But really check around for "magic princesses" and "magic queens" and you'll find the former tend to be (nice) while the latter are usually (evil) which is funny when you think about it. |
