Back then the enemies had to be simply evil.
Now we have less badass ones, but with a good story. I never watched the old ones thought, so I can't really judge. |

All of G1 was pretty dark actually, though not as obvious as the pilot. I swear everyone wanted to kill the ponies every single day. |

Well, they can't really go into it seeing as they have to keep things light and fluffy, but NMM was the physical incarnation of Luna's bitterness and jealousy... thats pretty dark if you think about it.
I mean, hang a character's own emotions twist it into something evil, instead of some random outside influence, definitely feels a whole lot more serious. |

Yeah, no.
Apart from the rare villain like Tirek or Katrina, G1 MLP wasn't that great. And yet it's still better than G3.5. |

what about grogar, the penguin king, the flower fugitives (who they only beat with the help of giant crabs) the human-sized bees, the octopus that wanted to drown the world to make his kingdom bigger, not to mention random magical threats like a bunch of coins that caused a drought to fall, and they had to do favors for the giant that owned said coins if he were to lift the curse. or crunch the rock dog, who out of nowhere started turning everywhere he went to stone, or... |

G4 is confirmed to have a Season 3. Hopefully, that may have some opportunity to include a G1 villain or two. Tirek for instance would be perfect for a type of mini arc involving the Elements of Harmony. Tweaking may have to be done on his character, but I can just imagine some possibilities like him being connected to the birth of Nightmare Moon.
As for voices: I can imagine Clancy Brown G4!Tirek's voice. |
