Isn't it sort of a Monarchial Republic?
I mean....the towns and territories are obviously delegated to Mayors or some analogy. And when the Mayor wanted council she did ask for Celestia. I dunno. What system of government would that be where a Monarch holds overarching power but the city officials hold power and sway over their locals? |

Equestria falls more in the part of "family monarchy", since the "king" (queen in this case) is not chosen by the citizenry. It's very likely that, whoever was ruling Equestria before Celestia and Luna, was also a relative of them.

In a republic, the leader is chosen by a vote. How were Celestia and Luna chosen? It doesn't really matter. Who else would the people vote for? Who else would or could take the job? |

The main reason I ask this question is because I live in the UK (you probably get where this is going). I wanted to know what you guy think how Equestria would change if the national government was republican instead of some kind of theocratic coregency.
