Second names are often treated as surnames when the characters are trying to be formal and polite.
Also, Pinkie's full name is Pinkamena Diane Pie, which is a first, middle, and last name. Do I need to bring up the Cakes? Or are you going to shut up with your manure? |

I read Amy's email (you apparently did not), and she made it pretty damn clear that Hasbro/The Hub consulted her about the Derpy situation as a courtesy, not for permission. Censoring Derpy was never her decision to make, and any "approval" she may have given was tepid at best. This was Hasbro's dick move, and no one else's. On topic: YAY LYRA!! |

Everything was canon and nothing hurt. It's amazing, and shocking, how much fan stuff is suddenly becoming canon. The toy of "Heartstrings" is now called "Lyra Heartstrings" and they've corrected "Lulamoon" to "Trixie Lulamoon." As of "Putting Your Hoof Down," we've seen Lyra and Bon Bon become a canon couple on the show, with Lyra's humany habits seemingly intact. Also in "The Cutie Pox," a background voice shouted "Lyra!" Derpy of course became canon, name and all, then was toned down to near nonexistence again, but her presence remains in tons of WeLoveFine merchandise, and more shockingly, what is probably a real Fashion Style Derpy Hooves toy being sold on Taobao … who would ever have thought? I know I've ordered mine. The background pony dubbed "Doctor Whooves" by fans suddenly acquired a tie in "Super Speedy Cider Squeezy," to look more like Doctor Who. Then in "It's About Time," Gypsy Pinkie from Friendship is Witchcraft became canon. No one saw that one coming. The fan name of Octavia has now appeared on merchandise from WeLoveFine, opposite DJ P0N-3 [another ascended fan name]. It's seeming very likely that the upcoming toys of DJ P0N-3 and Lyra will feature the fan names, and that more fan names will ascend to toy and merchandise status. Meanwhile, toys of a white Princess Celestia are finally coming out. So let's talk about these new blind bags, which America may or may not ever see. The Princess Celestia blind bag toy is absolutely perfect, and a real surprise. Fluttershy doesn't merit her own sculpt, but the alicorns are looking good. Cadence isn't too bad either, but Luna is absolutely nonsensical colorwise, and cutiemarkwise. Also of note - all three alicorns get actual images of themselves on their collector cards. That's NEVER happened with recolor ponies before, and doesn't happen in this wave otherwise. Lyra is now a much lighter color. I wonder if she's actually the right color now or if she'll now be too light. She was too dark on her card before, and sort of the wrong colors in general. Trixie is so great and powerful. Although the blue streaks in her hair are a little dark. Lulamoon was only available previously as a sparkling, see through piece. This is a good one. Apart from these five extremely desirable blind bag toys, it's a really weak wave of characters otherwise. Most of it are Hasbro-created toy characters like Flitterheart, the sort of characters I thought we were going to see much less of now. There are a few recolor ponies of note: "Sunny Rays" is loosely based on an actual show character fans called "Sun Rays." This is probably another case of a fan name being used as a toy. They are also making a 5 inch toy of Sunny Rays, as seen at Toy Fair. However, the toy of Sunny Rays is colored similarly to Fluttershy. On the show, Sunny Rays is either green or yellow, with purple-pink hair. It's not a million miles away, but not right either. Also we have two very strange cases of show characters being turned into toys in completely the wrong way. "Secret of My Excess" introduced an earth pony called Junebug. She's a slightly yellow-green beige with orange and a unique orange-cream hairstyle. This toy is called Junebug, but bears no resemblance to that character. This is a unicorn with a pink body and yellow hair, similar to Cherry Berry. And then there's Sapphire Shores. Oh dear. I guess this is intended to be the glamorous Pony of Pop from "A Dog And Pony Show." Sapphire Shores has a very unique design and is always seen fully dressed - we've never seen her cutie mark [we actually see a blank flank at one point!] … It would be absolutely impossible to transfer Sapphire Shores' unique design into a generic blindbag pony recolor. That being said, they certainly haven't done it here. The colors are extremely wrong, though not so far wrong that I can say this isn't based on Sapphire Shores' coloration. Sapphire Shores has very rich blue hair with a stripe of lighter blue in it. This pony has teal-blue hair with a white stripe. Sapphire Shores is flesh-colored. This pony has a mild green-yellow body. Sapphire Shores has orange eyes. This pony has blue. Not a million miles off, but all wrong. And what is that cutie mark? The character is described as "quietly kind," which is the opposite of the real Sapphire Shores. Trixie's card actually described her, correctly, as loving to show off. So. I just noticed that Breezie is Surprise with the wrong cutie mark. |
