The answer is simple OP:
NOPE. |

Does Derpy count as a reference to the fandom? |
| Anonymous #1123927 4 months ago |
I do admit that the fandom has made a lot of stuff and mixing ponies with a lot of things,though... |
| ProfessorOfHoers #1123935 4 months ago |
I dunno. I doubt they care nearly as much about the fandom as people seem to think they do. |
| primedawg9170 #1123936 4 months ago |
I'd say that the fandom overreacts over everything. especially with the so called "references". |
| NightJack #1123939 4 months ago |
The fandom is just getting the same ideas as the staff at about the same time of just before, so it only seems like it on the show after the fandom does it, with production time and all that we just don't know. |
| Cgeta #1123949 4 months ago |
I think that many references are just simple coincidences, as we have created pretty much anything.
A fun thing is, that almost every episode of the 2nd Season seemed to be based of some fanfics, or Ideas of fans because of that. |

HO MY GAWD THAT PONY LOOKS LIKE MY OCI CAN'T BELIEVE THEY READ MY FANFIC |
| Vree #1123954 4 months ago |
We're just have the exact same ideas completely independently.
Like calling a pony Derpy, that was a weird coincidence. |
| Zancrow #1123957 4 months ago |
They do cater to us. Derpy for example or Nayuki's easter eggs. |
| Simlun #1123960 4 months ago |
Derpy was not a coincidence. That's a blatant reference to the fandom. |
| zralf #1123966 4 months ago |
there are a few small nods here and there, but it's in no way excessive.
and the way i heard it: the series WAKFU did that, as a matter of fact they based alot of their game and show on what the fan base does. i don't know how much of it is true though, i found the game a bit too boring to engange it, and i can't for the life of me find any episodes of the show anywhere. |
| Cgeta #1123968 4 months ago |
Sometimes I think, that some animators get inspiration from some fanart though. It's not always the case, but sometimes it seems like that.
For example in lesson Zero, where Twilight made that Molestia Expression to the CMC. I don't mean the wide grin though, which is in fact a coincidence :D But Molestia could be old enough. |
| CottonTales #1123991 4 months ago |
@Vree
that was intentional they do have the occasional nod to the fans but a lot is actually probably coincidence seriously how many people thought pip was a shoutout to fallout equestria? answer a lot |
| Cgeta #1123998 4 months ago |
Or the part, where the male post pony tried to put letters into the birds house, and the letters bend up and down. |
| Cgeta #1124003 4 months ago |
Ninja'd |
| dethgrimm #1124024 4 months ago |
Stop over-anaylizing! The show is fun! Isn't that enough? |
| CottonTales #1124027 4 months ago |
@Cgeta998
okay I don't get that last one can you explain it to me |
| Cgeta #1124091 4 months ago |
@CottonTales
I wanted to add my text to my previous comment. Generally I meant that the part where the mail pony tried to put the letters into the birds house could've been based off of this very old gif: >>455 |
| Anonymous #1124202 4 months ago |
Fans take it from the animators and then animators re-use it. |
| Roboshi #1124243 4 months ago |
a little bit of both, Nayuki puts a couple of easter eggs in there and Derpy of course. But there's a fair bt we're just having fun with. |
| Anonymous #1124279 4 months ago |
Oh no, they're not referencing stuff we came up with at all. Derpy and DJ P0N-3 becoming canon names, everything about Derpy, the return of Flutterbitch, subtle Molestia nods in Lesson Zero, Pinkie Pie being confirmed as the Equestria equivalent of Deadpool right down to her favourite word being kumquat, a Daring Do cover perfectly mirroring a particular piece of fanart, Dash and AJ's almost-kiss that one time, Lyra and Bonbon showing up more often and looking more and more like a couple, it's all a total coincidence!
Or hey, maybe they are directly catering. |
| Anonymous #1124595 4 months ago |
Indirect references here and there. There are actually some bronies in the animation crew. They do not make a point to reference, it's usually vague stuff like Lyra and Bonbon and Dr Whooves Dr Who reference was confirmed |
| Anonymous #1124760 4 months ago |
Do you remember how Luna looked at the end of
the second episode of the first season? That was totally a Woona reference. |
| WatermelonRat #1124809 4 months ago |
A combination of both. |
| Anonymous #1124858 4 months ago |
@#1124760
Oh look, someone trying to invalidate the fact that references to the fandom are made by "cleverly" bringing up something in the show that happened before the fandom could've even thought of doing it. Yeah, go back to troll school. |
| Anonymous #1125233 4 months ago |
I heard a certain popular host on a certain radio show comment that "No means no" must be an adult reference for bronies.
Seriously? What child has not been told that? Bronies will believe what they want to believe. |
| Spiffy #1125931 4 months ago |
That's one thing that does bug me about the fandom, when something get's apparently "referenced" they instantly jump the gun.
Bunch of piss-ants if you ask me. |
| Dysons_Fear #1126534 4 months ago |
Probably not. But it is fun to think that they do. |
| PikaRobo #1131804 4 months ago |
THANK YOU. |
| Psychopomf #1131816 4 months ago |
Both but back and forth |
