So wait it's okay if it's a little boy and an adult woman but gender swap makes wrong?

I'm no Sparity fan but I sense a double standard.

Well we don't know Spike's age, maybe the rate how Dragons age is differently than ponies. Like how the aging rate between a cat and a bird is far different. Besides it was show that Spike is pretty much stuck at the stage until he starts hoarding again.

StarrySkies We know from Twilight's backstory that Spike is roughly half of Twilight's age, that puts him at around 9, maybe 10 years old tops. So, he is mathmatically and biologically elementary school age, and that is just plain akward for a romance scenario.

I assumed Twilight was about 6 when she hatched Spike. She looks kind of young to be 9 or 10, at least to me. If Twilight's about 20 now, that would put Spike at 14 which is too young for a relationship but not ridiculously far off. Even if she was 7 at the time and he's 13 now, it would work. A lot of people put him at the same age as the CMC but I figure he's older.

But the thing is, we're using human aging rate to explain their age. For most animals, it takes about 1-3 years to mature, sometimes alot more. But seeing is how Spike ages, if he was a hundred years old and didn't hoard. He'd still be just a baby.

THEN AGAIN WE'RE PERFECTLY FINE WITH CELESTIA BANGING TWILIGHT

Hey now....

Who said I was perfectly fine with Celestia banging Twilight?

I'm not a fan of Sparity or Twilestia.

^ Not all of us are...even though her teacher's complex is way too implied.

^^ I have to agree. To say that Spike was 9 or 10 is ridiculous. Spike psycological profile is pretty much in the 13 to 14 age range.

As for double standards, yes, it is, for bronies. Its natural when we see no sexual attraction. I for one know lots of girls who think guy on guy action is a lot hotter the girl on girl. And as for the double standard of age range, lets just put it this way: rape is usually done by guys. A certain standard is inevitable.

Y'all seem to be interpreting Spike's love for Rarity differently than I do. He's a kid with a crush on his big sister's hot friend. She knows, but usually doesn't say anything. It's not that weird.

We don't really know how they age. I think its better to judged their ages by personality and behavior.

@1115358

I would have agreed if it were portrayed as a fun gag and nothing more but A Dog and Pony show says otherwise. His intentions of mature and sincere self sacrifice is too much to describe as a kid's crush.

The little guy was ready to throw away his life for her. I mean, sure, its a kid's show so the DDogs wouldn't have probably killed him but if they did, Spike didn't care as long as Rarity was safe. None of his ideas to save her were done for laughs. Though unnecessary, they were all heroic.

I dunno. I guess I'm saying his crush is only used as a fun gag in the side lines but when it becomes a plot device in an episode, it's portrayed as sincere and honest feelings rather than immature and childish.

Guys, dragons are mythological creatures of vast variety. What defines a dragon can be obscure, some might not even be reptiles. Their ages, just like their appearance and traits can be easily shaped to the artists' imagination. Not all dragons follow the same rules.

I've always thought of Spike as a very precocious pre-teen. Hanging around Twilight Sparkle has definitely helped his intellect; he's probably way smarter than any dragon his age. But he's definitely a little kid at heart; "Owl's Well that Ends Well" showed that he still has a lot of childish insecurities.

So you guys never had a small loli have a crush on you?

Pre-pubescent girls "fall in love" with guys all the time. As long as you are not a sickfuck, and look at it as innocently as it is, it's rather cute.

Dunno man... as a "kid" (11-14) I used to be way more intensely emotional about my crushes than when I grew up.

@BackgroundPony17
What about Pinkie in Party of One or Twilight in Lesson Zero or RD in Sonic Rainboom or Rarity in Suited for Success or Fluttershy in Bird in a Hoof or AJ in Apple Bucking Season?

@1116381
What do you mean? The writers in Dog and Pony Show portrayed Spike's crush maturely instead of using it for laughs. If the writers behind the show were never serious about Spike's crush on Rarity, why even write him leading the 5 ponies with the rescue? He was the one coming up with the best ideas to find Rarity and he protected her with his life earlier during the episode without even worrying for his own safety.

^I'm pretty sure manly Spike in that daydream was written for laughs. As well as Spike riding Twilight like a knight on his steed, almost kissing Applejack, etc.

If the writers/series staff/Lauren Faust wanted Spike and Rarity to be considered a serious item, they wouldn't have made Spike a baby dragon in the series. If you took off your shipping goggles, you'd probably realize that.
