Alicorns are supposely goddesess, so candence would need to be the ruler of something (i dont know, stars, gravity, some shit like that) and it would be hard to explain if she was a real character and she never got mentioned even once during both seasons. Its preferable to say that "she mysteriously appeared one day, took over a country and now is going to marry twilight's brother" and make her be the villain |

No, anon. Even though it's not mentioned in the show, it plays a big part. Everytime the mane 6 got into trouble amongst themselves, it was understanding that got them through. The sharing on their feelings and thoughts. HECK even Fluttershy used it to fight off Discord in the maze. She knows of it. But Celestia is the holder. Also, in essence, the 7th element is a combination of all the other 6 in one. As to understand friendship to it's fullest, you must know the in's and out's of all the other six parts. |

IF that theory were to fly, and that's a pretty big if I should know, Celestia's element would be the element of knowledge given her whole theme is the sun and light and she has a whole school specifically for gifted unicorns (which in hindsight could have actually been a net created by her long ago from some kind of prophecy telling of the elements and for catching a foal like Twilight to fill the role of the 6th element.) Of course, IF there is a seventh element that would conflict with what was stated in the "Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide" from s1ep2, where it stated: "There are 6 Elements of Harmony but only 5 are known." And even IF you were to find a loophole around that or just throw continuity out the window, why would only Celestia get a new element? Why not Luna as well? Like say something like the Element of Love? Of course that makes 8 elements, which is a good round number for this sort of thing, but due to Twi's CM and how we're kind of going with a theme of 6's and 3's (Earth pony, Pegasus, and Unicorn - trinity of races, plus many other trinities throughout the show like say the CMC and such) that means there should be at least be another element. Like say Cadence. Or maybe Shining Armor. Or maybe someone else we don't know yet. Or maybe Starswirl if he could possibly be still around. And finally, the element wouldn't be in the crown, that's just a symbol of authority. It would be her necklace because that has the defining jewel in it. Or maybe it could be the crown. Maybe it changes depending of Celestia's mood. Of course if it could change form, then how many other forms could it take? There's the stone sphere form and necklace/crown form that we know of. Maybe there's a full-armor form? Or a stand-alone weapon form, when they're not active? I don't know. But now I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE FINALE. |

Magic dosen't bind, it mearly exists, and so, easily lost. The 7th keeps the magic alive with memories and the communication between friends.
Discord played off that fact in the Season 2 opening. Celestia, the 7th Element, helped Twilight to remember her friendship and to understand why the others are like they are and how to help. |

Celestia is the element of knowledge/understanding as signified by the light of the sun, Luna - as I threw out there before - could be the element of Love symbolized by the moon though...I'm not sure how those two connect at the moment, BUT ANYWAYS, Cadence could be...what... Her name means a kind of rhythm, a sequence...but what...what could that have to do with the elements besides Harmony itself... Could you have Harmony as an element? I mean they're the Elements of Harmony, doesn't make sense to have an element of harmony within the elements of harmony... hrm... |

Also, on the properties of love. As it requires all 7 to work properly, it played a nice role in Hearths Warming Eve. As the three races refused to listen to each other, help each other, and UNDERSTAND each other, their hearts grew cold. It wasn't untill they worked those things out and understood each other deeply did the love flow again. |

@Cog "magic" isn't a combination of the other five. It's the "Magic" of friendship. Not friendship itself. Otherwise it will just be Twilight Sparkle in the show teaching friendship but never understanding it to it's fullest potential.
The transgression from 6th to 7th is a path of enlightenment. Such as Celestia took. Hence why she is so different from every other pony in existance. |

AH! okay, scratch my last post there then. Well then, in that case, you must realize that no one can just leap up to that state of mind in an instant. They have to make their way up to that position, no matter how quickly or difficult - it's still a process getting there. So in that case, what if there still is an element of love, building off of the other elements in the same way as before here, and the whole point of the elements in total is not to just create and recreate harmony when needed, but to also refine and build up ponies to greater paradigms, to greater heights and thus...I don't know, make them Alicorns in the end? Make them just and wise rulers over those who haven't gotten there yet? Handing down the elements to those who are ready to undergo those processes? What if Celestia had a circle of friends like Twi does and had to go through these things as well...Heh, that would certainly tie up loose ends. Maybe, though that wouldn't answer where the elements came from... |
