Okay, I know I'm a bit airheaded but can someone PLEASE explain me why did suddenly everyone turn against Purple Tinker? Did I miss some shitstorm and no one told me? |
| LordBristle #1102829 4 months ago |
What's goin' on--
O hai Passionate, I love your Tennantface gifs. What was this about? |
| TobiasKazama #1102843 4 months ago |
I've read through a (long) archived 4chan thread about this shit. But since you can't believe 99% of what you read from there - I'm still not sure I've got a freaking clue about what's really going on. |
| misnamed #1102847 4 months ago |
As far as I can tell, these are the remnants of an ancient quasi-shitstorm back from when Purple Tinker was still a part of the Bronycon staff, that some Anonymous just decided to post today for some unholy reason
Of course, this is only what I've deduced, frankly I have no idea |
| Anonymous #1102851 4 months ago |
Wait, nevermind, I'm gonna take my time and read the whole conversation. |
| ProfessorOfHoers #1102857 4 months ago |
I remember seeing a meta bout this a day or 2 ago. I don't know what's true or not and I don't know if I can trust 4chan at all. However, it all seems pretty suspect.
I can't go to bronycon anyway so I don't care personally but it does seem kind of a fucked up deal. Of course, when you play telephone you never know what you'll get. Still seems pretty obvious there is SOME foul play and hiding stuff here though. |

Now that I've read through the whole thing in the link I think that the thing that bothers me most is Seth's (alleged) coverup of things. This doesn't surprise me.
I am becoming more and more convinced of EqD's lack of backbone, journalistic integrity, and operation. Of course, this could all be fake. I have no way to prove anything one way or another. It just wouldn't surprise me. What does surprise me is why I care I guess. I just hate seeing people get lied to or ripped off I guess. I'm not sure if any of this matters or not really. |

EqDaily has a better job representing the fandom than the fandom does itself. I honestly couldn't care less about some Anon with an misguided sense of internet justice tries to stir up. Come out and speak up and actually put something on the table if you want me to listen to you. |

99% of what's being said against Purple Tinker in these threads is:
She's transgender [which is hateful and irrelevant] She's a thief [which is ridiculously untrue] 99% of that thread is tranny, tranny, tranny, thief. For those who don't know: Purple Tinker ran BroNYCon. It quickly became the top convention for this fandom and in some ways became a victim of its own success, as people reported being turned away at the January con if they hadn't RSVPed in advance. Purple Tinker put a ton of her own money into the con and worked extremely hard for many months. Apart from Sethisto, no one worked harder than Tinker for this fandom. She worked hard to a fault, trying to be everything to everyone. Anyone who ever attended a BroNYCon or a Brony NYC meetup benefitted from her hard work and friendship and there are thousands of comments at the meetups groups to this effect. Eventually, things became too stressful for her and she collapsed in a catatonic state during the January Con. The BroNYCon staff had already felt that her leadership was seriously slipping and that she'd been short with them, and they decided to banish her to the moon, an action which gave them no joy as most of them still considered her a friend. Tinker was angry and heartbroken, and there was a lot of stress and anger all round. Running a con this size is very difficult. The BroNYCon staff are wonderful people who worked extremely hard and worked without sleep. I have no doubt that BroNYCon is in the best possible hands now. But Tinker was among the best of them, and this fandom owes her a debt, not just for BroNYCon but for her many other works. She opened up her home, her bank account, and her life to us and deserves a lot of thanks. I attended a few BroNYCons and a few monthly meetups. I was never part of staff, but I got to meet everyone on the staff and consider them all friends. The drama is a shame. Tinker is not an undramatic person, but neither is Rarity and we all still like her. The people spreading lies about Tinker and writing "tranny tranny tranny thief" all over 4chan are the worst kinds of fans, the sort of hateful people I thought this fandom was above. A similar hatred came out with Yamino, who is also a transgender pony fan. I knew Yamino from the Homestuck fandom as being a good artist who made a weird comic. I certainly disagree with her that Derpy is offensive, but she's entitled to her opinion. Certain people thought otherwise, and suddenly it was all Yamino's fault that Derpy was being reedited. A huge amount of hatred came out, elevating Yamino as if she were running an entire movement. This is bullying of a transgender person, just old-fashioned bullying and bigotry. I'm a pretty normal, levelheaded straight male. I don't sit still for racism or sexism and I'm not gonna sit still for this. Love and tolerate? Unless you're transgender, then we bully you to death … That's not acceptable. |

#41: I read the thread and the chat logs too. And actually know the people in question. I know what I'm talking about. About all the first chat log proves is that Tinker was angry when she was ousted. So what? |

Tinker shouldn't be in a position where she represents any group of individuals. Even if she is the nicest person on earth (and she's far from that), she's not professional and has some bizarre feelings about business practices.
I didn't go to January BroNYCon because I knew it would be a clusterfuck and it was. I feel bad for the VAs and I hope Tinker's general mismanagement didn't alienate the lot of them from future events. |
| Dark_Horst #1103813 4 months ago |
what exactly happened at the january bronycon?why do you feel bad for the VAs? also, what does RSVPS mean? |
| MagicMarker #1104826 4 months ago |
@Horst
-Too many people were booked. Not everyone got in. -PT acted like a slob in front of the VAs they got. -VAs were payed a week later. -PT threw a shitfit later when the other staffers called her out on her bullshit. |

Oh, hi, Winter Heart.
Guys, MagicMarker here is a.k.a. Winter Heart, one of the people who left the BronyCon staff after him and his buddies tried to seize power and I didn't let them. They've been so butthurt and desperate to destroy what they could not control that they've been spreading shit about me ever since. Through the use of carefully selected logs (mostly of me at my absolute worst moments, under huge amounts of stress) and distorted recollections of events, they've tried to make me look like a monster. Typical distortion: They criticised me for having a VA sign a bunch of posters at a dinner. What they DIDN'T tell you is that these posters were being sold for a charity drive to benefit little children. What they ALSO didn't tell you is that I'd already arranged with the VA beforehand to have these posters signed at that dinner. Anyways. * Not everyone got in: A dozen or so people who paid did not get in, and they were refunded, and comped into the next con. Mistakes happen. That's why I set the con up with a ridiculously large venue for next time. * I acted like a slob... I was running a convention, not a fashion show. We can't all be fashionable young bucks like you. * VAs were "payed" (lol) a week later: Well, one of them was. Of course, she also REQUESTED SAID PAYMENT a week later. Payment requested on January 13; payment sent January 13. Problem? * And... okay, that last one's too vague to even bother with. TL;DR butthurt former BronyCon staffers bashing on former BronyCon con head because they weren't given total control over the con; also one of them mocks me for being trans despite being queer himself. Nice people. |

@PurpleTinker
Lol PT, always making a fool of yourself XD Nobody HAS to say anything to make fun of you, YOU provide the comedy. Hell, half the time you PROVE that what people are saying about you is true with your commentary. You keep complaining about these (probably imaginary) "disgruntled ex-staffers" who are apparently the source of everything wrong in the universe, yet you never quite mention who they are, or why they would want to "sieze power" to begin with. All you ever do is blame this "Winter Heart" person over and over again. If the convention is SOOOOOOOOO unprofitable like you say a million and one times (EG: http://purpletinker.deviantart.com/journal/Why-con-orgs-AREN-T-swimming-in-money-290381967), why would anyone want to seize power? ANYWAYS; 1. Why is it that even a dozen people who paid didn't get in? 2. You admit you acted like a slob in front of VIP's, classy... 3. Why do you lol at "payed", what's so damn funny? Almost as if there's some hidden joke you're not telling us... 4. "PT threw a shitfit later when the other staffers called her out on her bullshit." That's not vague... that's pretty clear. Now please, feel free to continue making a fool out of yourself. |

1. Because the reg procedure was imperfect. As a result, too many pay-at-the-door people got admitted, and the venue exceeded capacity. A small number of prepaid attendees weren't able to make it in. When these individuals came to me, I returned their money immediately AND comped them into the next con. I then immediately began working to ensure that the next venue would be large enough to prevent overcrowding.
I am human. I make mistakes. And when I make mistakes, I try to fix them. 2. I wore flannel. It wasn't "food-stained" and it wasn't "filthy". In retrospect, I probably should have worn a nicer shirt (though the "VIPs", or rather "VIP"-- there was only one VA at the dinner-- wasn't exactly wearing an evening gown. This was not a state dinner. This is something that happened months ago, and the VA in question was VERY pleased with both the con and me personally, and sent me a wonderful thank-you note. Now, tell me, is it really worth trying to bash me for dressing overly casually at a single dinner that occurred two months ago? 3. Seeing conspiracies where none exist, nice. I was laughing because MagicMarker can't write. The word he was looking for was "paid". 4. It's pretty vague; the "bullshit" in question was not identified. I've been accused of a LOT of "bullshit", much of which is blatant distortion. As for why people would want to seize power? Very simple: They thought that THEY could make the con profitable. Sean in particular was always bitching at me for making decisions which wouldn't make the con's money back. He seemed hell-bent on making the con turn a profit. I've been told that when he and his four friends left the staff, that he then approached Everfree and tried to persuade them to convert from a not-for-profit corporation into a for-profit corporation. I've also been told that he expressed dismay at the staff of the Traveling Pony Museum for not being profitable (it's not SUPPOSED to be; it's a museum, not a business.) Sean (de-factor leader of the group of walkouts) was always talking about BronyCon as a "business". That's what he saw it as, and that's what he wanted to run it as. He felt he could make a good deal of money doing so. That was never my goal, but it WAS his. THAT is why he wanted to control the con. To turn it into a money-making machine. |
| PurpleTinker #1180927 3 months ago |
BTW, example of said "distortion": Someone bashed on me for 'making' (?!) a VA sign posters at that dinner where I wore the "food-stained" flannel (it was freshly laundered). This makes it sound like I demanded a bunch of posters for my own gain. The posters in question were part of a charity program that raised over a thousand bucks for children. Nobody ever mentions this fact, which alone completely changes the impression one would get of the whole situation. |
