You can't make people accept something they are against, only put up with it. |
| MaroonBunyip #1101566 4 months ago |
you implying that it isn't?
because I have many many links I can give you if you feel that way. |
| gashunk #1101570 4 months ago |
Tolerance is already pushing it for some people. |
| Anonymous #1101571 4 months ago |
How about y'all shut the fuck up and use neither of them? |
| TheOneTrueZephin #1101575 4 months ago |
you can't always change the way you feel, but you can at least control how you act |
| sploich #1101576 4 months ago |
Doesn't forcing "tolerance" defeat the purpose of tolerance? |
| sploich #1101579 4 months ago |
That was directed @Clover_Patch |
| gashunk #1101582 4 months ago |
@571
That was like it was on cue or something |
| Jackarunda #1101601 4 months ago |
acceptance
no, because that implies that would imply that i accept everything everyone else does tolerance is correct because as zephin said you can control how you act |
| Jackarunda #1101604 4 months ago |
sentence fail |
| Ovy #1101605 4 months ago |
Why not just change it to "Don't be a dick" ? |
| Anonymous #1101606 4 months ago |
How about sticking to it as a countertroll just as was intended huh? |
| TheOneTrueZephin #1101620 4 months ago |
I second Ovy's idea! |
| SpecialAnon #1101633 4 months ago |
There are things one can love/tolerate/accept that someone else can't, and pushing/forcing them to adopt any principle, even if it is known for being universally "good", is not the course of action one should ever take, even when the opposition is so feverishly denouncing your principles. You can try to help them understand, but if even then they won't accept it, just leave them be and move on.
Neither motto presented by OP can safely say that "any hate within the fandom no longer exists". We "tolerate" most things, including hate, even when we don't "accept" it, and we "accept" things that exist, but that doesn't necessarily mean we must whole-heartedly "tolerate" it. Instead of excluding any of these, we adopt them into the fandom creed of "Love and Tolerance", and in some cases we go far to add them into a new motto: Love, tolerate/accept, forgive and appreciate(this last one more about the fandom to the creators). I can't say that all of us here DO practice this, but those who do, I assume, understand the problem but continue to abide by the creed regardless. |
| DeeperMadness #1101653 4 months ago |
You want us to accept Scientology while we're at it? Fucking hell, OP. |
| Anonymous #1101656 4 months ago |
they're both just phases ppl tend to thrown down to annoy others. if you're saying "love and tolerance" ask yourself if you really need to/should be commenting at all |
| Anonymous #1101680 4 months ago |
^EXACTLY, #1101656! GAH! |
| Anonymous #1101681 4 months ago |
How about we just skip the acceptance/tolerance part and just use love?
Wait, that doesn't sound right. |
| gashunk #1101688 4 months ago |
@681
Nah, they already tried that in the 70's. |
| Takino #1101689 4 months ago |
Referring to it as 'just a countertroll' implies that nopony means it, and I don't buy that. Maybe if FiM is just a meme to you, that's fine, but that's not how everypony sees it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4_0qtAulNw "Love and Tolerance", for me, is about taking the message of the show to heart, to try to improve oneself and live up to the virtues of the Elements of Harmony. Love and Tolerance used to be what made Bronies special. We welcomed newcomers with smiles and support. We took the trolls in stride and did our best to be their friends. We looked out at a cynical and dark world on the internet and around us and said NO, that's not for us, and we won't be dragged down by it. |
| Draconequus #1101763 4 months ago |
How about we call it "We like ponies."
Short, simple, true and to the point. |
| Takino #1101769 4 months ago |
I like ponies. |
| Draconequus #1101780 4 months ago |
See? It's catchy.
Just imagine it on a shirt. |
| gashunk #1101801 4 months ago |
Amare equus ferus caballus? |
| Draconequus #1101809 4 months ago |
Nous aimons poneys.
Nos gusta ponis. 我们喜欢小马. |
| Takino #1101823 4 months ago |
It is pretty catchy.
Actually, if you got it translated into a few dozen languages and had them all printed on a shirt, that could make a pretty cool pattern if it's done right. |
| The-Original-Dashie #1101890 4 months ago |
Feel like a broken record saying this:
"Tolerate and Love" was used on 4chan to counter-troll. When you use it for other purposes you merely display your ignorance. |
| Vree #1101964 4 months ago |
The internet constantly trolls 4chan unintentionally by taking their jokes and taking them seriously. |
| ED-SKaR #1101980 4 months ago |
I think tolerance is better personally, and here is my thoughts:
every pony, Everybrony and everybody else is flawed, now if we were to "tolerate" those flaws, we can be their friends and help them to improve, if we were to "accept" their flaws then we'd be sitting around letting them hurt themselves and others. |
| MagicMarker #1102192 4 months ago |
You must be new here. |
| jimlahey #1102433 4 months ago |
Learn your history my little bronies aka see
#1101890 and #1101606 |
| Takino #1102517 4 months ago |
@1606, The-Original-Dashie, jimlahey
You guys are a laugh. I can't wait to hang out some more. And while stating "Love and Tolerance", and having that as a motto of sorts was indeed a 4chan counter-troll, it's the spirit behind it that made the brony community so much different than anything that came before. So you can keep your 4chan mindset, and continue treating this whole thing as just a meme, that's your prerogative. But the rest of us are gonna move on and try to be better than 4chan. |
| TheLoneLampman #1102524 4 months ago |
I love how some people seem to think that the fandom is permanently glued to 4chan or something. |
| mindcannon #1102525 4 months ago |
I really hate the motto love and tolerance. It makes it out that the MLP fandom is this holy fandom, when it is not. |
| TheLoneLampman #1102680 4 months ago |
Ya know, maybe as a fandom, we're trying to be better than your average run-of-the-mill asshole?
Is there something so very wrong with not wanting to be a total dickweed? |
| Anonymous #1102917 4 months ago |
there will ALWAYS be hate |
| BluesXx #1102946 4 months ago |
> Implying that there ISN'T hate going on. |
| Takino #1103317 4 months ago |
@mindcannon
I agree that as a 'motto', it's a bit forced. We're definitely not some 'holy' fandom, and we've got our share of flaws. Like TheLoneLampman said, though, it's about trying to be better than the run-of-the-mill asshole, and trying to lift ourselves up to become something better. |
| ProfessorOfHoers #1103935 4 months ago |
Love and Tolerance was a counter troll strategy. |
| PikaRobo #1104347 4 months ago |
It doesn't. There will always be hate, but we still need to learn to tolerate it. |
| I_Like_Your_Mane #1105565 4 months ago |
>Love and Tolerance was a counter troll strategy.
It WAS. Now it's more the motto. I think most fans practice it fairly well. It's always the few trouble makers and drama queens that blows things out of proportion. |
| GreyAcumane #1107049 4 months ago |
I have regained my faith in the fandom. I had just pointed out the issues of acceptance vs tolerance just a few days ago, and I came in here expecting people to actually be going along with it.
Thank you so much. All of you. Even the ones who are trying to drag things down, because your failure to do so just makes all the success shine brighter. |
