I find it ridiculously strange that some people genuinely believe that a one-shot pony who literally only got 5 seconds of screen time is better than any of the characters that have been evolving and developing for 40+ episodes. |

The only (CANON) things we can assume are that she is a DJ and that she wears strange looking glasses. I'm guessing that the people who believe she's better than Twilight or Pinkie or any of the other main characters like her because of her fanon personality, which is even stupider. |

Part of the appeal is that almost everything about her is a mystery. The rest of the appeal comes from the various pieces of fanon created about her.
To some, she becomes a representation of their life-goals, because they subconsciously attributed their own dreams into their headcanon of Scratch's life story. Every background character has the potential to MEAN something to someone, to represent something that they hold near and dear to their hearts. Derpy Hooves is one of the few characters who resides in the hearts of almost every fan of FiM, yet the reason why she's so special varies from person to person. For me, broadly speaking, Derpy represents everything good that is left in humanity. If I were more open to tattoos myself, then I would get a tattoo of Derpy. |
